Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

You are invited to join a friendly and motivated Medical team within the Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Your post will be based at the Canalside, Abbotts street, Walsall WS3 3AZ
The post will cover community assessment, treatment and psychiatric care for Children and Young people with mental illness in Walsall borough. There are on call commitments to this post. You will be clinically responsible for patients within your catchment area. You will be part of an established MDT that includes Psychologists, junior doctors, nurses, Allied Health Professionals and support staff.
Main duties of the job
Provide and support the development of specialist psychiatric services to Children and Young people with mental illness, to help safeguard the wellbeing of vulnerable Children and Young people, to comply with confidentiality policies and to record activity accurately and comprehensively.
Assess and treat children and young people in out-patients setting with a mental illness and behaviour disorders in line with NICE guidance, best practice and Trust policies.
Work closely with Multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic care and provide clinical leadership within the team.
Support the care of Children and Young people with mental illness by developing strong partnership with other agencies and services, including education, social care, primary care and voluntary agencies.
Contribute to clinical leadership within the Trust wide Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, including participating in the governance structures.
It is envisaged that the post holder will work 10 programmed activities over 5 days. Following appointment there will be a meeting at no later than three months with the Clinical Director to review and revise the job plan and objectives of the post holder and at least annually thereafter. The overall split of the programmed activities is 7.5 to be devoted to direct clinical care and 2.5 to supporting professional activities (as per the Royal College of Psychiatrists recommendation). Essential criteria
- Full registration with General Medical Council Inclusion on or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council or within 6 months of CCST/CCT or equivalent in Child and Adolescent psychiatry at date of interview. Section 12 (2) Approval + Approved Clinician Status or demonstrated ability to gain approval
- MB, ChB, MBBS or equivalent Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent 3 years higher professional training in Child and Adolescent psychiatry
