This particular role sits within the International Product Support Team within Central Engineering, who look after product issue support and 1st line investigation on-site across Ocado Smart Platform (OSP) sites around the globe.
***About the Role**:
The Support Engineer works closely with Engineering Specialists in the wider team, on all in-field activities during the manufacturing, install and commissioning phases of new CFCs - maintaining in-depth, practical product knowledge across all products (both developed in-house and externally sourced). This position is accountable for resolving any and all engineering issues on-site, providing valuable feedback to the Head Office based team - making it an integral role in ensuring our CFCs are delivered smoothly.
Day to day, you will:
- Ensure Product Engineers have all that is required to enable them to raise any required product change request or solution through the Change Control Process.
- Ensure field mark-ups of product documentation (drawings, manuals, guides, checklists etc.) are sent in a timely and clear manner to technical support colleagues & Product Engineers.
- Maintain product and process quality at all times.
- Provide direct engineering product support as required, ensuring the issue is appropriately resolved both in the immediate and at root cause.
- Report on field visits, making sure product issues are formally communicated back to technical support colleagues and escalated to product engineers as required.
- Organise resources onsite when required (Equipment / manpower & instructing others).
- Review designs for MHE systems to ensure conformance with Ocado PLC code requirements.
- Undertake on-site and off-site pre-checks of vendor conveyor equipment build and modifications.
- Collaborate with other engineers and technicians to develop and implement automation solutions for manufacturing processes.
- Debug and troubleshoot PLC programs and control systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability while feeding back information for code library updates.
- Develop and maintain PLC documentation, including ladder logic diagrams, function block diagrams, and program flowcharts.
- Participate in the commissioning of new automation systems and equipment, including testing and validation.
- Provide technical support for PLC-related issues to other departments, as needed. Including rolling out PLC code for new machinery.
- Work with 3rd party vendors to ensure Ocado standards are maintained (reviewing & checking 3rd party code), and also in their commissioning and acceptance testing using Ocado supplied code libraries.
Please note that as part of this role, international travel to client sites may be required.
***About you**:
You will have:
- Demonstrable experience & success in Field Engineering.
- Experience with the installation & commissioning of complex products and / or systems.
- Experience with acceptance testing.
- Knowledge of Siemens TIA portal (V14/V15/V16).
- Electrical experience with 24v roller drives such as Interroll, TGW KingDrive
- Significant experience in PLC programming and automation, including strong knowledge of automation control, sensors, and actuators, and experience in commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining PLC-based control systems.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, etc.).
- Experience in commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining PLC-based control systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as communication and collaboration skills when debating detail (both technical and commercial) with both internal and external parties.
- Experience of projects and products in manufacturing, automotive, airports, FMCG distribution or similar field.
- A Technical / Engineering qualification, to HND level in a relevant field.

- Comfortable using CAD packages, e.g. solidworks, Eplan, inventor etc.
- Experience with Profinet & ASI bus troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of inverter setup with Schneider SoMove or SEW Motion Studio.
- Knowledge of Siemens safety PLC and experience with functional safety systems.
- Experience using Beckhoff control systems.
