Band 8a Specialty Matron for specialist services within the Anesthetic and Surgery Division at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. We have an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated senior nursing team at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust within the Anesthetic and Surgery Division. We are looking for a specialty Matron who is passionate about leading change and adding value to patient care.

Our division consists of Specialist Surgery, Trauma and Elective Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Urology, ENT and Oral surgery, Breast services, Critical care, Theatre, Day care and surgical same day assessment. The Matron will also have exposure to other specialties on the on-call rota and undertake peer reviews in other specialties.

The post holder should be an experienced nurse manager who is enthusiastic, dynamic and keen to make a positive impact on nurse training, education, professional development, patient experience and continuously improving key performance indicators and improving the quality of patient care.

This is an excellent opportunity for a registered nurse with managerial experience to work strategically within a busy Trust and a division who is passionate about high standards of patient care.

The Matron should be highly visible and accessible within the wards and departments. He/she should be an exemplary role model for nurses, leading by example, empowering staff to deliver improved patient safety and enhance the patient experience. He/she will adhere to professional standards of care and promote a professional image of nursing/ midwifery that inspires confidence in service users, family members and carers and the healthcare community as a whole.

The Matron will foster a culture of patient centeredness, equity, dignity and timeliness of healthcare provision for all patients and champion a 6C culture of Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage and Commitment.

The Matron will be responsible for focusing on quality, innovation, productivity and prevention and work closely with the Professional Lead and Operational Business Manager to maintain efforts to continuously improve safety, clinical quality, effectiveness and efficiency. The role will provide strong managerial and professional support to both the Divisional management and corporate nursing team.

The Matron will support the implementation of the Trust Quality and Safety strategy and contribute to the developments in line with safety, quality and improvement in relation to NHS Safety Thermometer, Harm Free Care, Patient Experience and Open and Honest Care (Transparency) for his/her designated areas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Professional Leadership
1. Senior Nurse/Midwife within the division, providing effective leadership to a defined clinical/ community areas in conjunction with ward/department managers ensuring that nursing standards are monitored and maintained.

1. Role model the 6C’s, be visible and accessible in your area upholding high standards of professional behavior and be easily identifiable to patients and the public.

1. Lead and encourage practice development initiatives, encouraging innovation and development and ensuring that teams participate in patient safety and quality improvement programs.
