Postdoctoral Research Associate

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented, organised and highly motivated individual to join the team as a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) on an MRC funded translational research project in the Department of Eye and Vision Sciences at the University of Liverpool. This multidisciplinary project will develop a novel cell bandage to treat persistent corneal epithelial defects (PEDs). PEDs pose a clinical challenge even for experienced ophthalmologists. Standard treatments tend to be ineffective, prolonging patient discomfort and diminished visual acuity. Our novel cell bandage treatment aims to promote epithelial healing and avoid secondary complications. You will be leading on the culture and characterisation of human corneal epithelial cells and their interaction with the hydrogel materials, developing ex vivo models using porcine and human eyes and undertaking the preclinical testing of the cell bandage in an in vivo model.
You should have (or have already submitted) a PhD in a relevant scientific discipline. You should have a keen interest in cell therapies and translational research and experience of primary cell culture and hold or be willing to obtain a Home Office Personal Licence.
Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
This post is available full time on a fixed term basis until 31 May 2027.
