**Job Purpose**
To support an efficient and effective small animal oncology referral service by providing clinical activity under supervision of ECVS Diplomates, as well as participating in the out of hours service and being on call on some evenings and weekends. To contribute to the School objectives relevant to national and international excellence in clinical service, teaching and research.
- N.B. This post is offered on a 1 year fixed-term basis, such that they offer the early-stage clinical experience required as vets prepare for further specialist training, for example through European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS®) approved residencies and/or masters formal training programmes. While appointments may be extended for short-fixed term period where this would be in the mutual interest, in the interests of ensuring that veterinary career development is supported, and to assist with recruitment to the University’s EBVS® approved Residency and our own Masters Programmes, the one year duration will remain the normal duration._

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**

**Clinical**:

1. To support the small animal oncology referral service by providing, under supervision, a high-quality service and appropriate advice to external referring practices and owners, to help support a clinical referral workload necessary to support the commercial, teaching and scholarship activities.
2. To support the development of novel approaches and techniques to aid diagnosis and treatment and exploit the opportunities to enhance the income generation capability of the service.
3. To participate in the out-of-hours service, ensuring adequate cover is available for the care of in-patients, provision of direct supervision of under-graduate students, and offering external advice when required.
4. To ensure compliance with the continuing professional development requirements of the appropriate speciality and the RCVS.
5. To participate in promotional activities and events relating to the Small Animal Hospital.
6. To contribute to the ongoing development of the academic discipline of the Division.

**Teaching**:

7. To deliver undergraduate and post-graduate teaching activities in veterinary medicine in accordance with the established programme.

**Clinical Scholarship**:

8. To collaborate in appropriate clinical scholarship projects/trials within the Small Animal Hospital through a portfolio of individual/joint research projects, to help secure the funding required to under-pin the long-term growth of the activity and to present findings at national and international meetings to ensure a high profile for the School, as well as the University of Glasgow.
9. To attend and actively participate in national/international events/research seminars/conferences within the service area.

**Administration**:

10. To contribute to the administrative work of the Hospital/Division as assigned by the Clinical Director/Head of Division.
11. To contribute to the performance and development review processes as appropriate in accordance with university strategy.

**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**:
A2 Knowledge of national veterinary regulations and practices.

**Desirable**:

B1 Prior training and experience in small animal oncology. B2 Masters, PhD [or other evidence of research training].

**Skills**

**Essential**:

C1 High standard of communication skills, both oral and written. C2 Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
C3 Self-motivated, able to plan for contingencies and think strategically. C4 High standard of presentation skills.
C5 Ability to provide advice to clinicians and external veterinary surgeons.

E1 Clinical experience in small animal oncology.

**Desirable**:

F1 Previous experience within a clinical setting.
F2 Teaching experience relevant to the Higher Education sector.
F3 A track-record of clinical publications

**Terms and Conditions**
Salary will be Grade 6, £33,232 - £36,924 per annum.
This post is full time and fixed term for up to 1 year.
