Assistant Head of Engineering

The Assistant Head of Engineering, a senior leadership role which falls into the Siemens Rail Infrastructure Engineering career map, will report to the Head of Engineering and will work alongside other experienced senior engineers in the field of railway projects in support of the safe implementation of Siemens Mobility Rail Infrastructure projects. You will manage a small team and provide technical mentor-ship and administrative support to your team. The Assistant Head of Engineering, in conjunction with the Regional Engineering Managers and the Principal Project Engineers will ensure that Engineering Safety Risk is managed effectively throughout the regions and the design phase of all allocated projects.

**About the Role**

The Assistant Head of Engineering shall support the Head of Engineering in the delivery of engineering capability, capacity, process, metrics and governance. The Assistant Head of Engineering (AHoE) will represent the Head of Engineering in the leadership of the Lead Design Managers, Lead Project Engineering Managers and Lead Testing Managers. The AHoE will provide accurate resource forecasts to deliver the company's project delivery obligations. They will identify norms in terms of durations and skills required for engineering tasks, and will identify efficiency improvements to continuously improve the engineering performance and productivity of resources. The AHoE will determine the skill set variation against forward order book and will work with the Head of Engineering to put in place plans to address any shortfall. The AHoE will assist the Regional Engineering Managers with the specification and recruitment of engineering staff and will maintain job descriptions for engineering delivery.

- Manage the process to identify future strategic engineering resource requirements by maintaining metrics to measure the effectiveness of engineering resources and processes to ensure that they continuously improve.
- Maintaining the SRA UK engineering processes to be applied in tendering and delivery functions in order to ensure smooth mobilisation of new projects and adoption of process improvements identified and / or required
- Engineering Governance over the tendering and Delivery functions to ensure Engineering process is applied and is effective in order to control engineering risks.
- Maintain norms for engineering tasks, and monitor trends in performance of delivery against those norms across the company
- Support the HOE with identifying, implementing and driving forward efficiency changes. Liaise with the Regional Engineering Managers and the Capacity & Capability team to ensure a high level of knowledge and skill is maintained within the Engineering delivery team through robust training and development activities.
- Work with the Chief Engineer to ensure that the engineering community fully understand their responsibilities and accountabilities with regard to System Safety within an increasingly complex technical environment
- Identify and implement lean initiatives to our processes and tools including digitalization. Liaise with the Regional Engineering Managers to ensure a high level of knowledge and skill is maintained within the engineering delivery team through robust training and development activities. Champion and participate in continuous improvement through proactive sponsorship of all CI initiatives.
