Procurement Assistant Apprentice
Do you want to make a difference? Do you like a challenge? Do you want to learn new skills and work towards a qualification? If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an apprentice to join our well-established and respected procurement team. Procurement is not just about buying thing but so much more, as a member of the Council’s Procurement team, you will be heavily involved in a range of procurement activities and projects, all of which play a key role in how and where the Council spends its money. This exciting opportunity will enable you to support colleagues in planning, preparing and undertaking procurement activity resulting in contracts for the supply of goods and services. These contracts will vary depending on the relevant service area and will include, but not be limited to, children’s services, transport, IT utilities, highways, environmental, public health, leisure and adults services.
**The Role**
As procurement assistant your main role is to get the best value for money, but also being mindful of where and how your goods and services are made, procurement is not just about creating contracts and as a procurement apprentice you will be involved in undertaking spend analysis on particular supply chains and market sectors to understand how and where money is being spent. You will be contributing to how we ensure additional social, local, economic value can be delivered to our residents, communities and City as part of the delivery of contracts. You will support work to ensure that our sustainable procurement strategy is brought to life through the sustainable approach and delivery between the Council and its delivery partners. You will support the continued embedding of our approach to modern slavery and the raising of employment standards within our supply chains. You will support our drive to ensure that our contracts and relationships deliver value for money and ensure that our approaches to market are relevant and appropriate. You will meet with key stakeholders from different parts of the Council to gain an understanding of their service/business drivers, that will help shape both yours and the teams approach to procurement in these areas in order to deliver optimum outcomes, improved services and value for money.
You will put this learning and understanding in to practice as part of your work with us during your apprenticeship and evolve your approach to procurement as your knowledge and experience grows.
