The post holder will undertake appropriate mental health assessment and short-term clinical intervention of children and young people referred to service and provide a range of appropriate, evidence based clinical interventions informed by assessed individual need. The post holder will provide support, advice and consultation to families/carers and other professionals involved in the life of the child/young person. The Mental Health Practitioner will supervise the Education Mental Health Practitioners within the team.

This post will work under the direction of the Senior CAMHS Practitioners within the project, across the secondary and special schools across Pennine Lancashire (East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen.

Undertake assessments of problems and provide appropriate therapeutic interventions and advice to children and/or their families/carers, delivering services within school settings.

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team where required, in addition to working as a sole practitioner, contributing to assessment and treatment decisions.

Deliver services within schools and colleges incorporating transition arrangements.

Balance those needs of the client and/or family, delivering treatment and intervention and being aware of when onward referral to more specialist services is required.

Attend and contribute to organized clinical supervision forums with the aim of enhancing one’s own and others clinical practice.

Liaise and work, with other professionals involved with children and their families/carers, from agencies such as Health, Social Services, Education, Voluntary Services etc.

1. Work with other professionals in Primary or Secondary Care settings to educate children’s mental health needs in families and social settings.

ELCAS are excited to be recruiting supervising practitioners for the new Mental Health in Schools Support Team in Blackburn With Darwen which commenced in January 2021. The Mental Health Support Team aim is of improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in the community.

There is a specific focus on developing more access to helping and improving the general culture of emotional support within all schools in Blackburn with Darwen. Working alongside community partners the Mental Health Support Teams is integrated with community ELCAS team and based in primary educational settings within the borough.

These roles support the delivery of all interventions provided by the Education Mental Health Practitioners, ensuring that a wide range of evidence based interventions are used to support young people’s mental health and to ensure integration within is seamless and transparent. You will actively supervise the trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners as well as delivering short term evidence based interventions within the schools setting.
