Commercial Officer

Compass Community is an independent child care agency with Foster Care Offices, Children’s Homes and Independent Schools across England and Wales. We are looking for an enthusiastic and fast-learning self-starter to join our growing Compass Commercial Team. This role will include a mixture of home working and ideally working with the immediate team based in our Bolton office.
Under the direction of the Commercial Manager and Senior Commercial Officer, you will take a supporting role role in commercial activities across our organisation. This includes coordinating contract/framework tender opportunities and post-award contract management support, as well as working with internal and external stakeholders regarding fees and customer engagement.
The role is busy and varied, requiring excellent organisational skills and working to tight deadlines.
**Skills & Experience required**:
- Strong attention to detail
- Effective time management skills with experience of working to tight deadlines
- Strong organisational skills - ability to work effectively in a fast-paced organisation, demonstrating a positive can-do attitude
- Ability to work on own initiative, as well as working within a team
- Excellent IT and administrative skills, including good Excel capability and experience of using management information systems/databases
- Strong and effective communication and interpersonal skills with colleagues and other stakeholders - working in collaboration with others
- Experience of data collation and inputting. It would also be desirable (but not essential) to have experience of analysing trends and data
- Demonstrable experience / skills in customer service and / or administration
Previous experience of working in a similar sector / environment would be desirable but is not essential i.e.
- Experience of reviewing and interpreting contracts
- Have an understanding of public sector procurement and commissioning and how this works with Independent Fostering Providers, Residential Children’s Homes and Education provisions.
- Experience in any of the following settings:
- Contract management
- Project planning and support
- Business Development
**On a day-to-day basis**:
- Manage the busy Commercial inbox as well as the profile upkeep and correspondence via various Tender and Contract portals
- Co-ordinate incoming framework and contract opportunities, which includes new tender opportunities and contract re-openings / refreshes. This includes extracting key information about newly published tender opportunities
- A forward-looking approach for managing future contract renewals and tender opportunities
- To prepare and disseminate Contract information to other departments post-Tender Award.
- Contract management support including updates to Compass services on relevant contracts
- Extracting contract information to prepare simple, easy to understand documents for operational leads
- Support with gathering information which enables the team, and business at large to understand Local Authority market demand and activity
- Preparation of Customer Information packs for the business to share ahead of local authority meetings
- Support with coordination and administration of fee reviews and placement support packages
- Accurately maintain internal schedules, contract monitoring and compliance systems, and to support with the future development of these systems and processes
- Be a point of contact for other departments to answer queries, provide support and advice in relation to our contracts, frameworks and fees
