**REPORTING STRUCTURE**:
Reports to: Programme & Operations Manager

**PURPOSE OF ROLE**

The Technical Author is responsible for writing specialist information about products and services, and how they work. You will need to explain how things are used in a way that is easy to understand. The information may be presented in the form of user guides, instruction manuals, training guides, operating guides, or instructional videos.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**

Research and builds knowledge about products, services, technology, or concepts to be documented.

Decide how best to organise and present the document.

Assess and record supplied source material.

Produce the project deliverables as instructed and in accordance with the project requirements.

Raise Media requests as required.

Write the material clearly and concisely, making sure it can be easily understood.

Editing, proofreading, and indexing documents

Collaborate with translators as necessary to convert writing into a variety of languages.

Ensure that all work is completed in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

**OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES**

Attend planning and briefing meetings.

Be responsible for the safeguarding of all protectively marked assets used or produced.

Ensure familiarity of relevant business processes, quality assurance procedures, project specifications and standards ensuring compliance where applicable.

Other general duties as requested.

**KEY SKILLS**

A clear and concise writing style

The ability to absorb information quickly.

An analytical mind and an inquisitive nature.

A solid understanding of the S1000D standard and its constituent components

**RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE**

Experience of working within S1000D standards

Demonstrable Technical and Authoring experience within the Aviation, Energy or Rail sectors

Engineering knowledge and experience

Proven communication skills

**OTHER**

The role is based in Manchester but may involve travel to Group offices in Cheltenham as required.

At all times, the Technical Author is required to represent the Company in a favourable light and to comply with all relevant Group policies and procedures and the Company’s Core Values.
