An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Project Management Office (PMO) for a Customs Subject Matter Expert to be based out of our offices in the Port of Southampton. Reporting to the Lead Business Analyst, the Customs Subject Matter Expert will become the key point of reference for all trade and customs related activities both internally and for customers.
To include duties such as:
- Provide customs specialist knowledge and experience to support business activities and project delivery
- Play a key role in defining and documenting customs requirements (customer journey, business process, regulatory requirement etc) for projects, working with cross-functional teams, to ensure solution compliance with customs regulations
- Monitor changes in customs legislation, gather, analyse, document, and provide guidance to the business to ensure compliance with customs and other regulatory body requirements. This may include training and demonstrations to internal and external stakeholders
- Develop and maintain a centralised repository of customs process and procedures accessible by all relevant company staff, ensuring this is kept well informed and up to date. Perform and complete audit check on customs knowledge repository as required.
- Handle and respond to customs investigations and other customs related queries
- Contribute to end to end project delivery process, including taking part in product review and feedback activities, and light level of exploratory testing to ensure product compliance to customs requirements
- Support the business in improving regulatory and customs management process to prevent risk and to improve work efficiency
About you:
- Solid relevant product domain expertise and industrial knowledge - UK/EU Import and Export regimes and customs declarations
- Good understanding of Import/Export requirements for all major routes (e.g. Maritime, Air, Courier & RORO)
- CDS & Transit knowledge/exposure is essential
- Able to demonstrate sound customs knowledge of supply chain processes with relevant experience with entry of goods to various customs regimes
- Able to research and to suggest quick solutions based on project or customer needs
- Able to perform under pressure in a rapidly changing environment
- Able to prioritise workload and effectively respond to queries on technical customs requirements
- Able to relay customs information to development teams in a ‘plain English’ fashion
- Able to effectively multi-task
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills
- Analytical thinking, enthusiastic, and agile personality
