Perinatal Mental Health Midwife

This is a key role in developing and maintaining high standards of care for women with mental health problems in pregnancy and the postnatal period, and their families.
You will have a high level of relevant expert knowledge and skills, which you will use to manage, develop and lead care for pregnant and new mothers with mental health needs. You will be responsible for providing specialist support and care to pregnant women with more severe mental health problems, in partnership with their own midwife and the specialist perinatal mental health team. You will provide a link between the maternity service and other services involved in mental health care women, including the local primary care therapy service (IAPT) and perinatal mental health team.
You will work closely with women and their families to plan and coordinate their care based on their individual needs.
- Maintain a high visible presence in the department and community services - acting
as an effective role model and expert clinician.
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders in the development of service redesign.
- Responsible for proposing and implementing high quality guidance that is in line
with the latest national policies, evidence and best practice, to underpin the
continuous improvement of maternity services in the context of perinatal mental
health.
- Have up to date knowledge of a wide range of local services available to pregnant
women/people in relation to their mental health needs and ensure this is
disseminated to staff and service users across the maternity service.
- Develop and maintain a basic working knowledge of current mental health
legislation, policy and guidance.

- Design, develop and facilitate inclusive, engaging and accessible learning and development programmes as part of the objectives identified in the People Plan
- Ensure all learning and development interventions are evaluated effectively and learning from these evaluations is shared through the relevant forums.
- Facilitate a robust and comprehensive on-boarding and new hire experience programme.
- Promote new and innovative ways to deliver learning, ensuring that the medium is inclusive, engaging and accessible to the target audience.
- Support the delivery of all statutory and mandatory training.
- Ensure that learning and development opportunities have clearly defined learning outcomes that underpin organisational values and behaviours
- Support the development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines relevant to learning and development and contribute to the development of other policies
- Research and recommend external training providers.
- Ensure compliance with Trust policies, procedures and guidelines for self and others, by taking action/alerting the learning and development manager if practice appears to contravene policy, or if concerned about any aspect of customer/service user care
- Take responsibility for own learning and development by recognising and taking advantage of all opportunities to learn, including full participation in appraisal, supervision, action learning and by maintaining a professional/personal portfolio of learning
