Post Title: Bowel Cancer Screening Project Officer

Hours: 37 hours per week (FT)

**Salary**: £28,000 per annum

Contract: 12 months fixed term contract

Responsible to: Senior Member of MVA team

Location: Based at MVA, Medway (role covers Medway and Swale)

**It is anticipated that the post holders will spend significant periods of time within communities**

**Aim**:
To undertake the planning, delivery and reporting for the MVA Bowel Cancer Screening Programme for Medway and Swale.

Clinical outcomes for Bowel Cancer vary significantly, with those living in the areas of highest deprivation experiencing the worst clinical outcomes and vast health inequalities. There is varying uptake of screening, particularly bowel screening. Bowel cancer diagnosed at stage 1 survival rates are up to 90%, whereas at stage 4 survival rates fall to 10%. However, Bowel Screening rates are poor, with Medway and Swale being significantly worse than the England average.

This project therefore aims to work alongside communities to improve understanding about Bowel Cancer Screening and to address some any barriers in engaging with the screening programme; including explaining how the test kit works and to answer questions about the process.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Arrange information sessions and pop-up clinics in targeted areas across Medway and Swale.
- Recruit communities to engage with information sessions and pop-up clinics.
- Understand and promote the benefits of bowel cancer screening to a diverse range of communities; supporting them to overcome any barriers to participation.
- Work with Voluntary and Community sector organisations and groups to help ensure a diverse range of communities are engaged with the project; particularly the most under-served communities.
- Work within the parameters of projects/programmes to ensure the delivery of all KPIs/targets set.
- Undertake some administration functions to support programme/project deliver.
- Input monitoring records, prepare data sets for the compilation of reports and contribute to the development of programme documentation including briefs and programme plans.
- Support the management of professional relationships with a wide range of external stakeholders.
- Maintain central project records, including details of stakeholders and establish project controls keeping the reporting managers aware of project/programme status.
- Work as part of the MVA projects team, providing support and promoting best practice wherever possible. Liaising with all MVA staff to ensure coherence of the MVA offer to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Support MVA with the delivery of events to launch and showcase projects/programmes.
- Support the Programmes Director to assist with the securing of opportunities to ensure MVA’s sustainability and growth.
- Support the monitoring of budgets by providing relevant information in line with processes.
