We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees. As part of this investment we are looking to recruit a **Operational Readiness Lead **on a **full time,** **12 months fixed term** based at **Birmingham**.

**Job Purpose**

The ‘Operational Readiness Lead’ is required to lead, plan and coordinate a range of operational activities associated with the introduction of the new class 196s and 730s. Acting as interface between the project teams and the WMT and external functions.

The Post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all operational processes and documentation required to support the introduction of the new trains are in place appropriately assured.

The post holder will act as ‘Operational Readiness’ pillar lead within the WMT New Trains programme governance structure.

**What does the job involve?**
- Concept of Operation - take ownership of the Concept of Operation, ensuring that it meets the requirements of the safety validation process and is acceptance by the business and unions.
- Liaise with and work in conjunction with the ORR and WMT Director of Safety, on the Train Dispatch procedure, leading to the revision and approval of an amended West Midlands Trains Safety Certificate.
- ASDO/CSDE - In conjunction with the relevant PM ensure delivery of the ASDO/CSDE strategy to time and budget, ensuring acceptance by the business and unions.
- Driver Advisory System (DAS) - taking the lead from the relevant business function, manage the delivery and implementation of any supporting activities required to put DAS into use.
- Train Testing - in conjunction with the new trains JPM co-ordinate activities to ensure train testing runs to plan.
- Operational Standards - In conjunction with the relevant business functions ensure all standards are updated &/or developed as appropriate.
- Stabling - lead and direct activities associated with buffer stop assessments, including revised or new Method of Working (MOW) instructions.
- Will lead a small team.

**What skills and experience do I need to do the job?**
- Excellent engagement and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Experience of the processes involved in implementing the introduction of new traction types.
- Understanding of railway operational roles and their interdependencies.
- Ability to work under pressure and produce accurate time critical information.
- Attention to detail.
- Desire to make a difference.
