**The role**

Arup's assessment team is one of eight specialist teams within the Climate Services and Sustainability business. The team coordinates, manages and produces impact assessments, working with a variety of technical disciplines and a range of different project types e.g. commercial, mixed use and infrastructure projects and at different scales e.g. single site projects through to multiphase and multi-site schemes. The team have expertise in optioneering and appraisals, undertaking as well as reviewing statutory environmental impact assessment (EIA), strategic environmental assessment (SEA), integrated impact assessment (IIA), health impact assessment (HIA) and equalities impact assessment. The team also carries out environmental reviews on due diligence projects. **Environmental Consultant**

**The role**:

- Providing support to the EIA project manager through a range of generally internal co-ordination functions including information management and monitoring and tracking activities against a programme.
- Helping prepare for workshops and meetings, attend and take minutes at internal as well as client meetings.
- Assist with the preparation of environmental deliverables including helping the project manager prepare guidance, templates and organise briefing sessions. Also assist the project manager obtaining draft reports from the Arup specialists on time, alert the project manager to any later deliverables and track progress against the programme.
- Support the project manager in budget tracking and checking actual spend against that forecast.
- Helping with project set up including using internal systems to create job numbers, project plans etc.
- Be able to use GIS to produce environmental designations maps and provide analysis of any constraints and opportunities linked to EIA development projects.
- Carry out high level optioneering provide informed analysis of environmental constraints for strategic development options.
- Be willing to support the wider work of the Assessments team for example strategic environmental assessment (SEA), health impact assessment, due diligence etc. as well as general team activities such as contributing towards bids, marketing material and organising team meetings.
- Under the guidance of the Project Manager, contribute to environmental reports including EIA screening letters, EIA scoping reports, Environmental Statements, non-technical summaries etc.

**Required Skills/Experience**

**Essential**:

- Experience of successfully contributing towards environmental impact assessment (EIA) projects
- Able to work effectively as part of a well-integrated team as well as able to work well under own initiative.
- Able to work in an environment which can be fast-paced and at times pressured and be able to shift priorities as necessary under the guidance of the Project Manager.
- Good analytical skills with a willingness and curiosity to help find technical solutions that responds to client objectives and promotes good environmental outcomes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including excellent report writing skills.
- Able to use / capacity to learn GIS and other digital technologies.

**Desirable**:

- Skills and experience in other forms of assessments such as strategic environmental assessment (SEA) and integrated impact assessment (IIA) of plans and policies, and/or sustainability appraisal tools
- Experience of working within a commercial / environmental consultancy environment, with understanding of the importance of client liaison, programme and time management, quality assurance and financial / budget control.

**Qualifications**
- Educated to degree level.
