Deputy Manager

Pebbles Care, a group of 45 residential care homes and two education facilities across England and Scotland, are now looking for a Deputy Registered Manager to oversee the day to day management of one of their registered children’s homes in Leeds. Pebblesare leading the way in therapeutic care, offering bespoke training to employees and offering safe, warm and friendly homes for children and young people aged 8 to 18.

The overall purpose of the role is to assist the manager in the smooth running of the registered home by ensuring levels of high-quality care and support for children and young people who are looked after away from home. This involves deputising in the absenceof the Registered Manager. Our homes operate in line with Care Inspectorate Quality Standards (Scotland) and the Children’s Homes Regulations (England). Pebbles cares for those who have experienced family or placement disruption, emotional/ behavioural difficulties,or other significant disruptions to their lives. The Deputy Manager will support the Registered Manager by providing leadership and management support alongside and in the absence of the Registered Manager.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- To lead and role model good practice within the home and set clear expectations of staff in relation to best practice
- To follow a designated shift rotation, within the home and to be responsive to attend at other times during crisis situations whilst 'on-call’
- To complete management tasks including report writing, administration, budgeting and leading and directing those at work, under the guidance of the Registered Manager
- To provide direct line management support and one to one supervision to members of the care team
- To ensure the delivery of high levels of nurturing care underpinned by the principles of therapeutic parenting, and to role model and mentor team members to develop these skills and competencies
- To promote safeguarding within the home through gatekeeping individual risk assessment and management planning for children and young people
- To ensure that the care environment runs smoothly and offers the right level of care for each child or young person each day
- To promote participation in activities with children and young people, encourage engagement in education and positive and appropriate hobbies and interests
- To address issues of poor practice and report directly and accurately any concerns to the Registered Manager or 'On-Call’ manager at the time
- To regularly participate in the out of hours 'On-Call’ rota, supporting other homes within the cluster group. This may involve physically attending a home out of hours as required
- To deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager during annual leave, sickness and on other occasions in agreement with the home’s manager and Area Manager
- To commit to completing the SCQF 9 /NVQ Level 4 training as preparation for a future management role

**Key Requirements**:

- Minimum of two years’ experience in a child-care or youth work setting or possess relevant experience within a social care setting in a supervisory role
- Experience of leading and developing best practice and being a positive role-model within a social care team.
- Able to articulate the principles underpinning Therapeutic Parenting as a way of caring for children and young people and how this translates into practise
- Must possess the SCQF level 7 (Scotland) and the HNC or the Level 3 in Residential Child Care, and ideally be studying towards SCQF Level 9 (Scotland) or the Level 4 Children and Young People’s Practitioner Qualification (England)
- Must have experience of having a lead role in work related tasks and having considerable experience of developing and supporting others
