**Job Description - Healthcare Assistant**
**Reports to**: Registered Manager
**Responsibilities and Objectives**:
- To promote and provide skilled care for the elderly and be responsible for the planning and recording of the immediate and long term needs of the Service Users.
- To adhere to all statutory requirements and good practices as laid down by all authorities involved.
- To adhere to company policies.
- To observe and operate in accordance with the CQC Essential standards of quality and safety
- Be involved in the implementation and maintenance of the Home’s quality assurance programme.
- To actively support and promote decisions and initiatives by the Manger.
- To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably requested by your Manager from time to time, which they consider necessary to maintain the smooth running of the home.
- To protect, secure and manage the premises and equipment.
- To help monitor and tidy the Home during the shift.
**Areas of Activities**:
- Ensure a handover takes place to the staff on the following shift.
- Ensure that the Service Users’ medication is administered at the appropriate times of the shift.
- Assist the Service Users as and when required, ensuring that their rooms and bathrooms are tidy, beds made and rubbish removed.
- Maintain and record a regular bathing routine and chart.
- Escort Service Users as and when required to and from their meals, assisting with serving and tidying up.
- Escort Service Users on garden walks, walks, short shopping trips etc.
- Assist in activities for the Service Users as and when required/requested.
- To ensure correct PPE is worn at all times, in line with infection control procedures
- All key workers have specific responsibilities to their appointed Service Users and the maintenance of their care plans.
- Maintain a laundry service for Service Users, including returning laundry to their rooms
- Assist in the cleaning and tidying of the dining room, ensuring that the sugar bowls, salt and pepper pots are replenished.
- Assist in the serving of afternoon teas and supper, clearing/washing up the china used and resetting the dining room tables.
- Assist with and maintain Service Users’ Daily Records as required.
- Accompany Service Users and give assistance when required to move around the Home.
- Assist Service Users that require assistance to get ready for bed and to get into bed. Serve night drinks.
- Assist in the organisation for new arrivals and the reception of Service Users, visitors and relatives to the Home.
- Assist in maintaining good order and high standards in the Home.
- Ensure Service Users are assisted with dressing and receiving their breakfast accordingly.
**Administration**:
- To have a good working knowledge of the Health & Social Care Act 2008 and CQC guidance about compliance.
- To be aware of all the procedures of the Home.
- To maintain accurate and up to date records of all Service Users and other related information.
- To bring to the attention of management any repairs and renewals of fixtures and fittings.
- Report any difficulties or faults and record in the Home Maintenance book.
**Resident’s Care**:
- Ensure that necessary medical treatments are carried out and the guidance in Care Plans is complied with and updated.
- To weigh and maintain weight records for each Service User.
- Maintain close supervision and care of the seriously ill, confused and inarticulate residents.
- Ensuring that Service Users are treated with kindness and courtesy at all times and that their dignity is maintained.
- To carry out any other duties directly applicable to the good nursing care of Service Users.
- To be knowledgeable regarding the whereabouts of all Service Users at all times.
**Home Management**:
- To conduct care and management in such a way as not to bring the Home or its Service Users into disrepute.
To maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of care and management of the Home.
- To inform the Manager if any serious difficulty or abnormality takes place.
- To be knowledgeable regarding Health and Safety at work including environmental health.
- To make sure you are familiar with the following:
I. Fire drills and Fire exits
II. Incident and accident procedures
III. Proper use of equipment i.e. Hoist etc.
IV. Proper moving and handling methods
V. Safety awareness at work
VI. Health and Safety procedures
VII. COSHH VIII. Food Hygiene
IX. Infection Control Procedures
X. Other relevant work procedures
**Clinical**:
- To give medication as prescribed, with proper monitoring of the drug, dose, time and frequency and to whom it is given.
- To ensure that medication is taken properly and to monitor the Service User for any normal, positive or negative effects of that drug, if given appropriate training to do so and with the manager’s approval.
