Commercial Director

Summary We’re looking for our next Commercial Director to lead and inspire a large and integrated department of over 2,000 people, responsible for some of our most important income streams and for the delivery of key components of our Climate Action and EveryoneWelcome strategies.

From cafes and shops to holiday cottages and campsites,commercial activities are at the core of the National Trust. As a conservation charity the revenue from our commercial income streams is vital in ensuring we’re able to preserve and protect nature,beauty and history across our places and spaces for everyone, for ever.

Although we’re not directly involved in conserving heritage or in restoring nature, we’re imperative in making it all possible through the funds and the support we generate.

Naturally for a role of this seniority there will be a requirement for travel as necessary.

What you'll be doing Managing a business of over £150m and a 3-year investment programme of £200m, you’ll lead, coach, and inspire the team to grow our commercial operation which is crucial to our conservation plans, underpins our visitor and membership offer and contributesto our ambitious strategy for people and nature.

In terms of scope, you’ll be responsible for multiple business units including Food & Beverage, Retail, Holidays, Brand Licensing, e-Commerce and Film & Locations. You’ll manage a rolling investment programme for all new and existing commercial assets, ensuringthey are fit for purpose and align to our growth agenda.

Who we're looking for This is a very senior role within the National Trust and a wonderful opportunity for the right person.

**We’re looking for someone who:**
- Has exceptional people skills - able to connect, build and develop relationships and enjoys working collaboratively
- Has experience in one or more of our commercial disciplines, such as Food & Beverage - or excellent evidence that you’ll quickly adapt
- Is an outstanding leader - emotionally intelligent and able to inspire teams
- Has experience of effectively navigating a multi-site matrix management structure in a large organisation with multiple income streams
- Has a track record of senior leadership in a multi-unit national business
- Has experience in proposition and pricing development, customer retention and loyalty, investment, and capital/revenue management
- Is an entrepreneurial thinker who develops and drives new thinking which is both creative and realistic
- Numeracy and analytical skills - able to draw key insights and interpret complexity at board level
- Can demonstrate an understanding of the role of commercial operations within a charitable organisation
