We are seeking highly driven, all-rounders to join our Patient Transport Team as receptionists.

This is key patient facing role within PTS and provides a comprehensive, professional receptionist service that undertakes a range of administrative tasks for the Patient Transport Department, in order to provide timely and efficient transport for Trust patients.

To have a thorough understanding of the Patient transport Assessment and Booking Systems which control and administer non-emergency patient transport into and out from Trust hospitals, satellite units and clinics.

To have a thorough understanding of patient transport procedures so as to proactively and efficiently manage patient transport travel on the day. To monitor patients’ progress and ensure that they are not delayed beyond the standard times. To anticipate potential delays, and act to avoid them as far as possible.

The Patient Transport Service (PTS) is part of Essentia and our patient transport service is available for all patients who cannot travel to or from our hospitals using any other method of transport because of their medical or mobility condition, or because their medical condition would otherwise worsen.

All requests for patient transport are assessed on medical need.

Patient transport vehicles operate with appropriate staff and equipment. As patients have diverse needs, we provide a range of vehicles such as cars, ambulances and high-dependency units and use specialist equipment such as wheelchairs, stretchers, carry chairs and stair climbers.

Using the current Patient Transport system book patients for both their inward and outward journeys. Check patient and booking details and correct any errors and omissions so that accurate records can be maintained.

Answer telephone queries from patients concerning their transport on the day, in a sensitive and effective manner. Any problems to be promptly and efficiently resolved. Liaise between patients, transport controllers and contractors so as to ensure the most efficient and timely travel arrangements for the patient.

Deal face to face with patients arriving in and departing from the Trust transport lounges, dealing with any issues that arise, including complaints and complete any relevant paperwork. Advise patients on departmental procures and booking information.

Using the current IT systems, book porters to take patients to their appointments and check that they will arrive in good time. Intervene to prevent unnecessary delays.

Oversee support for patients waiting in the transport lounge. Maintain an hourly roll call so that all patients are accounted for. Offer drinks and call for nurse support as necessary. Offer contact with home if transport is delayed.

Mentor new staff in the procedures relevant to the department.

Maintain performance data, and provide feedback to managers so that performance standards can be monitored and assessed on a daily basis. These will include providing data on waiting time standards.
