Flood and Coastal Risk Management Officer

We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven and adaptable individual to join the Partnerships and Strategic Overview team in Cumbria & Lancashire. - Your main role will be in the Flood Risk Planning and Permitting work stream. You will:
- Provide permitting advice to customers
- Provide planning responses as a statutory consultee for flood risk management
- Compliance and enforcement of permits
You will also enhance the Area’s incident response capability by having an incident management role. An exciting opportunity to be involved in active Flooding and Environmental incidents.
The team
- Partnerships and Strategic Overview Teams work with Flood Risk Management partners to design, develop and deliver flood risk management solutions that enhance communities.
- We compile, manage and use the best available evidence to inform our long-term plans and investment programme.
- We provide advice on Flood Risk Assessments to influence the location and design of new developments.
- We issue Flood Risk Activity Permits to protect the environment, prevent increasing flood risk and ensure adequate land drainage.
Experience/skills required
- We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate some of the following:
- An ability to work under their own initiative and as part of a team
- Excellent communication skills
- An ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
- Deliver work by planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information
- Ability to assess and use evidence and data to inform decisions and our understanding of risk.
- As an entry level grade we welcome all backgrounds, preferably with an interest in geography or science discipline at any level.

- A valid UK driving license is essential, for this role as it may involve some travel to site. Public transport can be used to travel to our offices in Preston or Penrith. Car sharing will be an option for site visits.
