Social Work Assistant

Our specialist Families and Friends Support Team supports placements for children and young people who are cared for by a relative or friend, where their own parents are not able to. We have dedicated passionate social work teams, led by experienced managers that support, advise and supervise all approved family and friend carers. This strengthens our Trust commitment to the importance for children to remain with their families throughout their childhood and we help them achieve the most positive outcomes. When a child has left their birth family, we believe they have a right to live with a ‘forever’ family. With around 2,000 children in our care, this is a big commitment to make. But together, we’ll do everything to find homes that suit a child’s age, developmental and emotional needs. Listening to the child is at the heart of our approach. We support them on their own personal journey. We are looking for Social Work Assistants to join our Family and Friends Viability and Assessment Teams. As a Social Work Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting the work completed within your social work team; this will include:
- To contact potential Connected Persons Foster Carers / Special Guardians to introduce yourself/the service and talk through stage one checks & references required as part of the full Form C (Coram BAAF) assessment. It will also be necessary to be able to give an overview of the assessment process, why this is taking place and what will be expected from applicants.
- To be confident in using electronic systems (CHARMS, Eclipse, spreadsheets etc) to keep records up to date and be able to communicate with people using a variety of different methods.
- To work alongside and communicate effectively with Social Workers and other professionals across the Trust including child care social workers, legal representatives, GP’s and medical advisor.
- To meet with potential applicants and help them complete paperwork, check ID for the purposes of DBS checks and to ensure people have the correct paperwork and understand the process for requesting a full adult medical with their GP.
- To support social workers within the service to complete the full Form C (Coram BAAF) assessment; this may include completing one to one sessions with applicants, or supporting with other documentation (i.e. health & safety checklist, safe care agreement, chronologies etc).
The successful applicants must be willing to make a positive difference and achieve change for the children and families we work with. You will be provided with a supportive team environment where you will have access to the right tools, equipment and resources, so you can focus on. You will receive regular supervision and a comprehensive training programme which will support your career development.
Interviews week commencing 28th November
