The University of Central Lancashire - working in partnership with St Catherine’s Hospice and NHS Greater Preston CCG - is seeking to appoint a Senior Research Assistant to work on the Patient and Carer Experience Project (PCEP) to strengthen the delivery of palliative and end-of-life care across Central Lancashire.

The PCEP comprises a 12 month programme of work with four key Work Packages (WPs):

- WP1: To generate an inclusive sample that encompasses all agencies and services within Central Lancashire offering palliative and end-of-life care;
- WP2: To undertake a preliminary audit of formal/informal, explicit/implicit sources of information on patient and carer experience available to such agencies and services;
- WP3: To develop a purposive sampling frame of these agencies and services to include those: delivering residential vs. community-based care; palliative only vs. comprehensive combined care; within the public vs. voluntary vs. private sector; and including adult vs. children and young people, and majority vs. minority and ‘seldom heard’ groups/communities;
- WP4: To undertake in-depth interviews and site visits with clinical and administrative support staff (including staff responsible for collecting/collating patient and carer experience information) to: generate a more detailed understanding of all potential sources of information on patient and carer experience (whether recognised or used as such); assess with staff how such information is currently used (both formally and informally, explicitly and implicitly) to inform and improve the design and delivery of services; and explore with staff their ideas as to how such information might be better/more comprehensively used to assess the quality of care and improve the design and delivery of services.
