**Summary**:
COVID-19 has reinforced the impact that threats to health can have on society and the economy and driven health security as a critical component of our national security architecture. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is a system leader for health security; taking action internationally to strengthen global health security, providing trusted advice to government and the public and reducing inequalities in the way different communities experience and are impacted by infectious disease, environmental hazards, and other threats to health.
UKHSA’s remit, as an agency with a global-to-local reach, is to protect the health of the nation from infectious diseases and other external threats to health. As the nation’s expert national health security agency UKHSA will:
- Prevent: anticipate threats to health and help build the nation’s readiness, defences and health security
- Detect: use cutting edge environmental and biological surveillance to proactively detect and monitor infectious diseases and threats to health
- Analyse: use world-class science and data analytics to assess and continually monitor threats to health, identifying how best to control and mitigate the risks
- Respond: take rapid, collaborative and effective actions nationally and locally to mitigate threats to health when they materialise
- Lead: lead strong and sustainable global, national, regional and local partnerships designed to save lives, protect the nation from public health threats, and reduce inequalities
**Job description**:
We are currently recruiting to x2 permanent Health Protection Practitioner (HPP) posts to work in Health Protection within the East of England.
This is an interesting opportunity to gain experience working as a Health Protection Practitioner at a very busy and important time. While we are continuing to hard to control and prevent the spread of COVID-19 and continuing to prevent and control the spread of other communicable diseases, post holders will work with a range of public and private sector agencies and be involved in the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection, environmental hazards and other components of health protection within the community.
These posts include participation in the out of hours health protection on-call rota after a period of training and assessment (with reimbursement).
**We are looking for **Registered General Nurses, Allied Health Care Professionals or Chartered Environmental Health Practitioners who are seeking to develop their role within the field of health protection. You will be a good communicator, able to work in a team and be prepared to take on responsibility, as appropriate. Experience in a community health related field, teaching, research and/or audit would be viewed as advantageous. Applicants should also be able to provide evidence of further professional development and be able to participate in the out of hours on-call rota.
**Responsibilities**:
**MAIN DUTIES**
- Under supervision, contribute to the day to day running of the acute response function to ensure high quality, safe and effective delivery of the health protection service.
- Provide first point of contact for specialist knowledge, support and advice to health professionals on health protection matters.
**SURVEILLANCE**
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of effective systems for the surveillance of communicable disease and environmental hazards.
- Contribute to the use of surveillance outputs to inform and influence local and national Public Health actions, policies and strategies.
**PARTNERSHIP WORKING**
- Through activities delegated and supported by line management, contribute to the development of effective relationships with a range of individuals and stakeholders.
**RESEARCH, TEACHING AND TRAINING**
- Contribute to research activity to complement the health protection evidence base.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of teaching resources and activities across a range of audiences with support from senior manager as appropriate.
**MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP**
- To act as role model adhering to team professional standards.
- Contribute to the development of policies and protocols for a wide range of health protection issues.
