Learning Support Assistant

We are a school that promotes ready, responsible and respectful learning habits so that our children leave as confident individuals, well prepared for their progression to senior schools of their choice. The role of the Learning Support Assistant (LSA) is to support programmes to enable access to learning for pupils, and to assist the teacher in the learning environment so pupils can achieve their very best.
**Hours of work**:
33 hours per week, term time only
Monday, Tuesday, Friday 8.30am to 3.20pm
Wednesday 8.30am to 1.05pm
Thursday 8.30am to 4.35pm
**Key responsibilities**:
- To support children within the class in all areas of their development in and out of the classroom
- To work on a one-to-one basis, with small groups or the whole class as necessary
- To provide teaching interventions to support children’s learning under the direction of the Class teacher or SENDCO
- To carry out general duties to support the teaching team, e.g. photocopying, displays etc.
- To attend staff meetings and INSET days.
- To participate in, attending assemblies and key school functions e.g. parents’ evenings, open days, carol services, speech day as and when necessary.
- To liaise with parents as necessary, under the direction of the Head of Learning Support /teacher
- To undertake any further duties as reasonably requested by the Head of Learning Support
- To assist with supervision of lunch, playtimes, clubs and wrap around care where required
- To participate in the organisation of planned activities and prepare and adapt teaching materials according to the direction of the classroom teacher
- To guide and monitor children’s progress, provide feedback to teachers/Head of Learning Support on pupil progress; assessing and observing where required.
- To assist with other supervision and covering for absent colleagues when required, as well as supporting in other year groups
- To keep running records of remedial work carried out with children during 1:1 or group sessions
- To contribute and review targets for a child’s personal learning plan.
- To engage with progress data and monitor progress of children worked with.
- To undertake training and seek opportunities for further CPD as and when required.
- To become involved in the day-to-day life of the school and be prepared to be flexible and adaptable
- To support and uphold the school’s policies
**Person Specification**:
**Knowledge & Experience**
- Level 2 in supporting teaching and learning in schools or level 2 in specialist support. Would consider unqualified if willing to undertake the qualfication.
- Minimum level 4 grade in Maths and English GCSE’s (grade C or above)
- Experience working in schools with SEND children
- Able to teach intervention groups
- Able to carry out precision teaching
- Ability to effectively use ICT such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams etc. or have a willingness to train
- First Aid qualification or willingness to train
- Sound knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching and learning styles of pupils with a range of abilities and needs
