**Background**

Business Education Partnership (UK) Ltd, known as BEP Group, is a registered Charity. Currently, we have two main areas of work: organising work experience for children agreed between 14 and 19 and, through our registered independent school, alternative education for children who have been partly or completely removed from mainstream school (or who are risk of becoming NEET). This role requires you to work over both our Romford and Basildon sites.

**Objectives**

To ensure the consistent enforcement of good student behaviour. To support the School Manager and senior management with the smooth running of the centre.

**Key Areas**

Working as a member of pastoral team, the post holder will:

- Arrive at work in time to start your day at your specified start time (school staff are required to remain on site throughout the working day).
- Attend the morning briefing and all team meetings as required to report on new students and any other student issues.
- Be based within the school and on duty on a daily basis, and be on-call throughout the day
- Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the Child Protection/Safeguarding Lead.
- Liaise with the School Manager on student issues, behaviour and attendance and disengagement.
- Ensure the student communal area is clean and tidy and report any health and safety/maintenance issues to management.
- Supervise the student ‘Common Room’, outdoor space and corridors throughout school.
- Record student attendance on our in-house database system, at morning and afternoon registration and throughout the day is students arrive or leave site.
- Record incidents and/or conversations/meetings involving students on our in-house database system.
- If trained, administer first aid to students.
- Security check, including wanding and searching of all students, twice daily or as required.
- Collect and ensure safe storage of mobile phones from students in the morning and at lunchtime.
- Respond to requests for assistance from teachers - this involves quickly getting to the classroom or other area where assistance is required (may include intervening and breaking up a fight between students).
- Physical restraint and ‘manual handling’ of teenagers (generally between 1 and 5 minutes), once training has been received.
- Patrol to front of school or attendance at local business premises to help assist with student behaviour.
- Home visits to ensure non-attending student welfare.

- Provide high quality data and reports as required
- Assist in maintaining contact with, and update, where applicable, partner organisations and agencies (Youth Offending Teams etc).
- Attend and/or organise meetings, special events and other functions as required by BEP Group
- Be familiar with BEP Health and Safety Policy and ensure that high standards of Health and Safety are observed, including when working off site and/or within other institutions.
- To be equally responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children you are responsible for and/or come into contact with

- Carry out any other duties as requested, including assistance within other centres as needed

- Ability to form productive relationships with young people who can be among the more challenging
- Experience of dealing with challenging behaviour
- Ability to deal with people at various levels of seniority
- Good team working skills
- Demonstrate a flexible approach to both delivery and working methods / regimes
- Excellent ICT skills (MS Office including word, excel, and access)
- An accurate and professional level of both verbal and written communication especially when report writing
- Ability to work to deadlines
- Ability to work and prioritise in an organised manner
- Ability to multitask, work at a fast pace whilst ensuring accuracy and attention to detail especially when entering details on to in-house systems
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

**Terms and conditions**
- Working weeks (41 weeks):

- Contact with students: 39 weeks (term-time)
- Non-contact: (2 weeks) 9 days Inset in school holidays (5 days in last week of August) + 1 day equivalent for parent's evenings.

Working day:

- Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - 8.30 to 16.30 (incl. 60 min total, paid breaks)
- Tuesday - 8:30 to 17:00 (incl. 60 min total, paid breaks)
- Friday - 8.30 to 16.00 (incl. 60 min total, paid breaks)
