Emergency Medical Admission (EMA) within Acute Medicine have a vacancy for an enthusiastic and keen team leader to take on the role of Junior Sister/Charge Nurse in EMA.We are looking for dynamic Junior Sisters /Charge Nurses or experienced Band 5 Staff Nurses who have the ability to lead, motivate and co-ordinate a large team.

It is a fast paced admissions unit which focuses on assessing patients with a range of different specialties,while delivering high standards of care and treatment.There are several expectations within the role of Emergency Medical Admissions, such as being competent in identifying acutely unwell patients and escalating appropriately.This would also include maintaining flow within the hospital and work accordingly with the multidisciplinary team.

The applicant should have the ability to work independently and within a team, with patient experience at the heart of their care delivery. There should be evidence of self-development and a clear plan for the applicant’s further development, along with the qualification to mentor students. When in charge the expectation is to lead, support and motivate your team to ensure high quality care is delivered.

Within your role of deputising for the Ward Manager, you will be empowered within your role to develop further. This includes guidance within incident reporting and investigations, safe staffing and rosters, and quality governance and assurance through audit.
- As delegated provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers without supervision in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
- The post holder will provide specialist nursing care and support and deputise for their line manager in the management of their clinical speciality. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.
- To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and to provide cover for any area specified acting as professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.

- In partnership with other professionals and disciplines to develop individual programmes which provide measurable outcomes of patient care. The process should include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in accordance with Trust and local policies.
- To take charge of the clinical needs of a group of defined patients and/or ward or department on occasion prioritising workload according to changing clinical need over a 24 period.
- Taking charge of the clinical area as required utilising appropriate support as necessary to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained.
- To delegate tasks and activities to a range of team members in relation to patient care. (for example when taking charge or as link nurse)
