Overview:
This is a senior editorial position at ITV News London. The Head of Planning will oversee planning for ITV News London. They will run the planning desk to help drive and shape the news agenda for ITV News London across the programme and digital.

They will liaise regularly with ITV News Home planning and other ITV regions. This role may involve deputising for the Editor.

**Responsibilities**:

- Drive and shape News Agenda for ITV News London
- Plan and manage a variety of special projects
- Identify and pursue stories for future coverage and to help drive distinctive coverage for ITV News London
- Prioritise effectively, and target planning time and resources at stories with a very high chance of making air
- Run the ITV News London editorial diary
- Brief and deploy reporters, camera crews and producers to cover necessary stories in advance
- Work and communicate closely with senior management and programme teams to ensure editorial goals are met
- Work closely with other ITV News regions on shared stories and projects
- Deputise for Editor, ITV News London when required
- Co-ordinate with the ITV News digital team to ensure smooth and effective planning across all platforms
- Attend meetings with other ITV Regions to ensure effective co-ordination of editorial goals and resources
- Ensure ITV News London coverage reflects and showcases a diverse range of opinions, matters and communities
- Maintain relationships and communication with planning desks across the ITN company
- Manage relations with key external bodies
- Make informed financial, legal and health and safety judgements
- Oversee all roster matters with responsibility to liaise and guide the admin desk on roster planning and issues

- Ability to prioritise tasks effectively

- Excellent journalistic judgement
- A record of superb planning skills and planning on and off-diary content
- Excellent organisational skills
- Ability to devise and construct creative packages and story strands
- Strong decision-making skills
- People leadership - provide help to others, give honest feedback and support to succeed
- Encourage and maintain a calm and authoritative approach in breaking story situations
- Excellent knowledge of current newsgathering technology
- Good knowledge of Ofcom regulations and the ITN compliance manual
- Awareness of Health and Safety requirements
- Awareness and understanding of the financial implications of all decision making
