Senior Legal Assistant

The children’s social care legal team are recruiting a full time senior legal assistant. The role will include conducting and progressing straightforward legal matters within the specialist area of education (including SEND), health and social care. The role includes a variety of work and an opportunity to develop skills across the whole area of the team’s specialism but will focus mainly on the area of public law children work.
The role will be to provide support and assistance to other lawyers within the team in matters of legal research, drafting legal documents, attendance at court and reporting back on outcomes. There will be an opportunity to hold some of your own cases and undertake straightforward advocacy.
You can expect the opportunity to support and work on varied and challenging cases including in the following areas:
- Fostering and adoption advice
- Legal advice and support to children’s services during the PLO process
- Advice to schools and academies, including parental responsibility, pupil welfare and safeguarding
- School admissions and exclusions, transport, including representation and advice at appeals
- SEND, including representation at Tribunals
This is a varied and interesting role working with a very friendly but busy Service. Support and training will be provided. Don’t worry if you don’t have local government experience as we’ll give you the support you need to develop and learn that area.
