Regional Reading Specialist Team Leader

We are looking for passionate individuals who want to make a difference to prisoners with low level reading skills.
**The role**
The Regional Reading Team Leader is a supervisor role which will provide overall supervision and support to the DPS Reading Specialists across the Lot and oversee the maintenance of accurate systems and processes required to capture reading screening and support levels and ensure that reading interventions are in place and that they are being tracked and monitored effectively to ensure reading progress is made. The post holder will be responsible for undertaking regular system audits and ensuring the provision meets the contract and PeoplePlus quality expectations.
The role will involve collaborating with the prisons within the Lot and its wider partners including the Shannon Trust contracted facilitators, Education Department, library, Head of Education Skills and Work, Learning and Skills Managers, Industry Managers and other prison staff to ensure Reading Specialists on site are identifying and supporting prisoners who cannot read or who struggle to read.
You will also ensure that on site Reading Specialists are helping to drive the prison wide reading strategy alongside the Education provider.

HMP Chelmsford
HMP The Mount
HMP Hollesley Bay
HMP Warren Hill
Your main base will be the closest location to your home address.
**What are we looking for?**
You will need to demonstrate high ethical standards, take personal accountability for everything you do, and always want to be the best. You will need patience, passion and understanding in your approach to prisoners who want to improve their reading skill and also have recent line management or supervisory experience.
As Team Leader you will be managing the Reading Specialist team within the Lot to ensure that they fulfil their key responsibilities. Within the role you will be responsible for monthly contract reporting on delivery, quality and the achievement of contract KPIs and outcomes.
You should have relevant and recent experience in a similar role within a learning environment and have a good understanding of reading development strategies and interventions including the use of phonics.
You will need to hold or be willing to work towards a qualification or training in providing phonics and/or literacy interventions to adults.
You will be passionate, creative, and empathetic towards prisoners, offering knowledge and guidance throughout their time in custody. You should be able to demonstrate experience of working within the reading field and experience of positively interacting with people in an educational or support setting.
