**Job summary**:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated HCSW to join our friendly and experienced Special School Nursing (SSN) Team. We provide Specialist SN to nine SS across the Southampton, Hampshire, IOW and Portsmouth and we are looking to recruit a HCSW to work primarily in Henry Tyndale School, Farnborough.
These schools provide education to children and young people who have SEN and complex health conditions. SSN team works collaboratively with children, families, school staff and the wider MDT within the education setting to ensure a supportive and caring learning environment. The nursing team are responsible for ensuring the health needs of the children are met using a family cantered approach to assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the health needs of the children within a specialist education provision. The role will include teaching and training of school staff, supervision of delegated skills including children and young people with a range of complex care, epilepsy and seizure management, enteral feeding, and tracheostomy.

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
To assist qualified staff in the provision of nursing care (including health promotion) as detailed in individual care plans.
Participate in the performing of appropriate tasks necessary to meet the needs of the ward/unit.
Assist service users outside the unit/ward/community environment to establish and maintain social contacts (unsupervised for periods of up to 1 hour in the local vicinity)
To undertake tasks that facilitate the smooth running of the unit/ward/community setting as directed by qualified staff Accurately record patient information.

- Healthcare qualification Level 3 or working towards gaining equivalent level.
- Good basic education or GSCE in English and maths.
**Experience**:

- Experience in either a hospital or community setting.

- Excellent communication skills (written and oral); requirement to receive routine information with patients/clients which may need some tact, reassurance, persuasion where there may be barriers to understanding. - Ability to manage own time; plan and prioritise work efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to shown empathy and deal empathically and tactfully when communicating with patients, carers, and clients.
- Ability to act on own initiative e.g. responding to an emergency.
- Able to work independently when on visits, demonstrating sound thought process for basic problem solving.
