**Full Job Description**:
**Location: The Grange Therapeutic School, Oakham, Leicestershire**
**Salary: Upto £25,000.00 per annum**
**Hours: 42.5 hours per week Term Time only**
**Contract: Permanent, Term Time Only**
**Everyone deserves an incredible future - continue your residential care career and become a Senior Care Worker with Acorn Education and Care**
The Grange is a sixteen bed registered Children’s home and school. We support Children and Young People build incredible futures by giving them opportunities, developing their life skills and personal interests.
This home is based in Oakham and is within commuting distance from Stamford, Corby and Leicester
**The opportunity**
This is a role with an exciting career and development plan, structured to ensure our staff are trained, supported, and continually developed. We want to give you the best possible toolkit, to deliver outstanding care and support to our Children and young people and help them achieve incredible outcomes.
There will be a thorough induction, fully expensed training courses, and pairing with a buddy, which together will help you expand your knowledge, get qualifications, and prepare to develop your career even further towards a Team Manager or Deputy Manager position. It is an incredible opportunity to further your career and see it flourish.
**The Role**
Acorn Education and Care work directly with vulnerable children with Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) and complex needs. You will be patient and compassionate and, most of all, dependable - working hard to forge a much-needed relationship of trust with those in your care.
This will involve learning about the young person’s interests as well as their dislikes and their triggers, using that connection as a launchpad for a rewarding relationship. A passion for this kind of relationship-building is essential.
You will be responsible for the wellbeing of the children or young people in your care. This will include chaperoning the children to appointments and activities, completing relevant paperwork, undertaking household tasks, and where appropriate administering medication. You will also lead, train and develop new and existing care workers within your team, helping the deputy manager to maintain a skilled and knowledgeable team in order to deliver the best care for our Children and Young People.
Working as part of an incredible committed team, you will co-operate and share knowledge and learning to the benefit of great care. Excellent communication skills are essential, both in terms of teamwork and - most importantly - as you will be in close contact with the children you care for.
Kindness is key. In this role, a warm smile can make a massive difference.
**Who are we are looking for?**
To become a Senior Care Worker with us, you will need to have achieved your Level 4 Apprenticeship for Children Young People and Families Practitioner, or NVQ equivalent. You should also have at least 1 year’s hands on experience in a similar residential environment.
We know that the children and young people in our care can be challenging, and we are looking for Care Workers who are up for that challenge. You will be patient and resilient, and able to recognise the reward in transforming a young person’s life. You will take care of everyday needs, using a calm, reliable approach that builds trust and confidence.
You will be friendly, approachable and kind in your dealings with your team and children and young people. You will be committed to giving them the space and opportunity to thrive, playing your part in creating a nurturing environment in which they can fulfil their potential.
You will play a key role in the smooth-running of the site, and you will have a good grasp of safety and hygiene, and a conscientious dedication to the young people’s wellbeing. This is a role in which attention to detail really counts - and one that touches the real lives of people every day
