The Commissioning & Acquisitions Team at BBC Children’s identifies and secures the widest range of top quality content from both the UK and internationally to satisfy the needs of our modern, sophisticated young audience. We are currently looking for a Script Editor focusing on content for 0-6 year olds to join the team on a continuing basis.
Main Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the Script Editor will be:
- Maintain an awareness of emerging writing talent across different platforms, seeking new material and taking steps to identify and encourage new writing talent, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds
- Form effective working relationships with producers, script editors and writing teams on children’s drama / entertainment / comedy / animation in production and development
- Be responsible for providing writers/script editors with sufficient information to enable the editorial brief to be met in respect of style, content, form and any other special considerations and give detailed script notes on behalf of the Commissioning team
- Where necessary to restructure and generate new storylines, working closely with external script editors and producers, and ensuring the consistent treatment of established characters.
- Liaising regularly with external script editors and producers, turn drafts around quickly and creatively and ensure all deadlines are met.
- Ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with independent production teams
- A high level of TV script editing experience that allows you to analyse dramatic material across a range of genres
- Ability to interpret editorial intentions, and to contribute to the generation of ideas and resolution of script problems
- Passionate about seeking out and developing the potential of emerging writing talent, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds
- A creative individual who is absolutely passionate that our content reflects our diverse audience.
- Clear enthusiasm for the Children’s audience and a broad understanding of content.
Please note, this role requires a relevant DBS check to be undertaken by the BBC at the appropriate level, at the point of offer of a contract of employment.
