Bolton’s Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) service is looking to recruit a team leader to oversee the Special Schools and Pre-school Complex Needs teams, within the Assessment and Long Term Intervention (ALTI) arm of a dynamic, fast-paced and forward-thinking service.

We are looking for a full-time member of staff to join the team and lead the way in developing a positive and sustainable complex needs offer for the children of Bolton.

As part of this role, the post holder will work clinically within the special school environments in the town and provide support to Speech and Language Therapists (SaLTs) and Speech and Language Therapy Assistants (SaLTAs) working within both the special schools and pre-school complex needs teams.

If successful, you will join our dedicated team of Speech and Language Therapists and Assistants. You will need to be able to assess children using a wide range of informal and formal assessments; provide verbal and written advice; devise therapy programmes and be able to train partners in the implementation of these; provide written advice which could be used towards Education and Health Care Plans (EHCP) and annual reviews. You will also be required to work collaboratively with the team around the child, within a range of settings, and to attend meetings with the shared aim of delivering a quality of patient care that meets the Trust’s vision for a better Bolton. You will therefore need to demonstrate good communication, inter-personal, organisational, time management and prioritisation skills.

Clinical supervision is provided through joint work with other team members; team meetings; case note audit with regular 1:1 management supervision sessions and annual appraisal with the Principal Service Lead.

Management
- To co-ordinate the Assessment and Long Term Intervention (ALTI) Complex Needs Team: Special Schools and Pre-school complex needs with regard to equity of access and appropriate skill-mix across the district.
- To work within codes of practice, occupational standards and policies and procedures to provide the day to day management of the ALTI Complex Needs Team.
- To support the Principal Service Lead, Team Leaders and other Highly Specialist/ Specialist Therapists as required.

Clinical
- To assess and treat own specialist caseload of patients/clients in the most appropriate setting e.g. inpatient, outpatient or community. To hold a clinical caseload across pre-school complex needs and special schools team.
- To provide district wide information, support, expertise, training and advice to SaLT colleagues and other professional groups.
- To provide specialist advice to other disciplines and services.
