**Assistant Underwriter - Property & Package // Motor**

**£22,000 - £27,000**

**Stafford - Flexible Hybrid working**

Working with a leading international Insurer, the Underwriting Operations Support Team are seeking Assistant Underwriters in both the Property & Package and Motor teams in Stafford. The role entails core competency for underwriting and development of a portfolioof accounts across both lines, for both existing and new business, this individual will have responsibility for technical support and service provision for stakeholders both external and internal.

**Key responsibilities & accountabilities**:

- Awareness and understanding of the annual business plan for the respective business unit
- Participate in the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress towards business plan
- Underwrite new and existing Property & Package OR Motor products, with strong negotiation skills
- Compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
- Adherence to underwriting standards, instructions, and good practice to minimize risk and maximize efficiency in line with process control time frames
- Contribution to the recording and measurement of insurance risks to ensure accuracy, good practice, and adherence to relevant performance standards
- Support the development of cross class business opportunities
- Positively promote the department, division, and company, to maximise brand leverage
- Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
- Keep abreast of market dynamics and demonstrate market cycle awareness to be able to operate effectively
- Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ensuring accurate underwriting data is captured on systems to minimize risk and ensure high quality output of information
- Assisting with the production of management information statistics and reports to support the business planning process, through research and project work

**You will need to demonstrate the following skills & experience**:

- Underwriting experience with market awareness and broker development acumen
- An understanding of the value of transacting business efficiently
- Strong organisation and prioritisation skills with ability to work to deadlines
- Exceptional service delivery with strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating the ability to establish and maintain business relationships
- Problem solving skills - demonstrating tenacity in handling and resolving queries
- A good level of numeracy and literacy with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Desire to gain knowledge and skills in an underwriting environment
- Basic understanding of class specific underwriting knowledge
- Some knowledge of insurance underwriting systems - experience of working on E-trade platforms would be advantageous
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements
- Flexible approach and ability to recognise and adapt to changing business requirements
- GCSE/Standard Grade level or equivalent qualifications
