Local Highway Officer

**Contract: Cheshire East Highways**

**Location: Congleton**

**Contract Type: Permanent**

**Answering enquiries and requests for service, engaging with the local community particularly parish and town councils to understand issues of local importance, and to identify and order highway maintenance works in accordance with policy, contract requirements and the business plan.**

**The Role**

***
- **Receive enquiries and requests for service for a geographical area of the borough. Carry out inspections and investigations as required in order to determine the appropriate response or action required.**:

- **Consider options and provide appropriate outcome for each enquiry in accordance with current policies, strategies, business plan and customer journey**:

- **Meet with customers on site to discuss highway maintenance or highway related matters. Conduct such meetings in a courteous manner and explain any technical issues clearly. Manage expectations but consider what action might be appropriate, balanced with policy and budget considerations**:

- **Develop and maintain relationships with town and parish councils and other community groups**:

- **Identify additional information / activities / systems needed to support service delivery / promote the service area. Ensure the design, development and implementation of solutions to deliver these.**:

- **Produce solutions to resolve day-to-day maintenance problems on the highway network within the scope of policy, business plan and legal responsibility.**

**About You**

***
- **A full UK driving licence is essential**:

- **HNC in construction or engineering would be advantageous**:

- **NVQ in construction or engineering would be advantageous**:

- **Good IT skills are essential, particularly MS Office and GIS systems**:

- **Experience of dealing with service users, sometimes difficult or angry, in a face to face environment, by telephone and in writing**:

- **Experience of highway maintenance methods and techniques and ability to problem solve to find appropriate engineering solutions**
