Pharmacy Dispensing Assistant

The post holder will be Responsible for a range of technical duties in the dispensaries within the pharmacies, to aid in the smooth and efficient running of the department. The post holder will be based in Panacea Pharmacy at North Tees Hospital. To work together with the pharmacists and technicians, in the dispensary, to provide patients with an accurate and timely supply of medication as an outpatient. To dispense medication on prescriptions and requisitions, for out patients and for discharge. Performing stock checks each day in the rotated area and maintaining the stock in that area ensuring fitness for purpose at all times. Dispensing of controlled drug prescriptions. Working within a team, in the Pharmacy, to deliver a high quality dispensing service to patients and users, adhering to standards of service delivery, and managing stock control.
**1.Dispensing**: Carry out the role of a Pharmacist Dispenser within the out-patient dispensary. Following SOPs to accurately dispense prescriptions in line with regulations from General Pharmaceutical Council and Guidance from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. Maintaining stock-levels through regular quantity and date checks (including controlled drugs). And supporting the health decisions of our patients through over-the-counter sales in keeping with the licensing of each product.
**2.Cash reconciliation**: Reconcile the daily payment for prescriptions following SOP for ‘cashing up’. Inform the cashier when change is required
**3.Filing**: Organizes, maintains and develops storage of dispensary generated forms and prescriptions
4.Tackle discrimination and harassment and promote equality and diversity in the workplace.
5.Reduce sickness absence, workplace accidents and promote zero tolerance on violence against staff.
6Take responsibility for personal development and education and the development of a Personal Development Plan.
Panacea Pharmacy is the pharmacy wing of Optimus Health Limited; a wholly owned subsidiary of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust. Panacea Pharmacy operates as the out-patient pharmacy of North Tees University Hospital.
Our work processes are similar to those seen in a community pharmacy dispensary, including OTC sales, but with an increased focus on the clinical side of pharmacy. Following established SOP’s to dispense prescriptions and requisitions timely and accurately using the ASCribe computer system and robotics. Self-check to ensure quality and accuracy of dispensed items prior to final technical check.
Dispense controlled drug prescriptions following SOP’s. Accurate entries to be made in controlled drug registers to maintain stock control and legal requirements. Responsible for each individual entry any discrepancies to be reported immediately to manager. Issue controlled drug stationary, prescription pads and requisition books ensuring necessary records are completed to approved staff. Monitor stock levels and inform manager when supplies are required
Undertake training to include prescription entry onto the ASCribe computer system, accurate assembly and dispensing of medication, reception duties. Take responsibility for personal development and education including mandatory training via Electronic Staff Record (ESR) and targets set within annual appraisal. Participate in departmental dispensary training of new staff in SOP’s and processes.
