Glasgow, United Kingdom SSAFA Full time

As a Peer Support Worker you will deliver a quality holistic service to GHH clients ideally 3 days per week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) or 4.5 hours per day over 5 days. No two days are the same at GHH and this role will expose you to a diverse client base and a wide network of partner organisations. You will manage your own case load providing advice and advocacy to members of the Armed Forces community in the Glasgow area.

GHH currently run 3 beneficiaries focussed projects; a football and wellbeing lead project, Glasgow’s Veterans United. MIRRORS, a project for those potentially at risk of dementia where clients partake in various activities across Glasgow including a 10 week language course. And ICE, our Inclusive Curling for Ex-Forces project providing access to curling activities and reducing social isolation. There will be opportunities to co-produce and develop future projects for our Armed Forces communities.

The role includes being the main point of contact for those seeking employment or those seeking to access training to further their employment opportunities. Part of this role will focus on developing employment opportunities for our clients and being the main point of contact for other organisations who have suitable vacancies or training courses and sharing that with the team and our clients.

**About the team**

Glasgow’s Helping Heroes is a friendly, informal team based in the Pearce Institute in Glasgow. We are currently working flexibly between the office and home with some outreach work too. Everyone is expected to work from the office at least half of their working week. The team at GHH work with a variety of internal and external partners including nearby SSAFA branches and Scottish Regional Office. You will work most closely with the Senior Peer Support Worker and other Peer Support Workers.

About you

A familiarity with Armed Forces charities and broader third sector is essential to role whilst being a skilled communicator to build those networks within the sector. This experience may have been gained through working or volunteering in adjacent fields or directly with members of the Armed Forces community.

It is essential that you can relate as a peer with our client group, so you must have either served or are a partner of someone who has served or is serving in the British Armed Forces.

You will manage a varied caseload, providing holistic advice on a range of complex issues including financial assistance, education, employment and wellbeing. Working collaboratively with other members of the team and using your knowledge of charities and statutory organisations you will ensure the appropriate practical and emotional support is available. This will include submitting requests for financial assistance to service charities on behalf of clients.

The ability to lead group projects and build networks would be advantageous to this position.
