Legal Counsel

Our client is looking for a commercial counsel to join their small, well-respected legal team to facilitate growth in their IT managed services and products business. Reporting to the 'Head of Legal’ this will be a largely autonomous role.

As Legal Counsel you will carry responsibility to provide proactive, pragmatic and commercially balanced legal advice and to identify, manage & mitigate legal risks. You will be an active stakeholder in cross-departmental projects while also supporting theimplementation of company-wide legal initiatives and standards.

Salary c£65,000 (depending on experience) plus bonus and generous benefits including uncapped holidays and informal flexible agile working.

What are you going to be doing?

Providing timely, practical and commercially focussed legal advice to support the business.

Negotiating, drafting and supporting on a broad range of customer and supplier agreements with a particular emphasis on technology contracts (e.g. licensing, SaaS, PaaS, IT managed services agreements.)

Developing and implementing precedent contracts for the supply chain and customer teams.

Identifying and articulating legal risks and working with key stakeholders to help the business assess and manage these.

Providing support to the head of department more generally on a variety of matters, including legal compliance, IPR protection, M&A due diligence and training the business on relevant legal/contractual topics.

What skills and experience do you need?

Able to evidence significant PQE experience as a qualified solicitor (England and Wales or other common law jurisdiction.)

Inhouse experience (or private practice with some secondment experience) ideally gained within a tech business.

Excellent understanding of commercial contracts law, with substantial experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating material technology contracts.

Data privacy and/or regulatory experience would be a great addition but is not essential.

Self-starter with a proactive, collaborative, can-do approach.

Excellent analytical skills, commercial judgment and attention to detail.

A strong communicator able to present confidently to senior level decision makers.

A personable team player able to work effectively and collaboratively with everyone.

Resourceful and flexible; able to quickly adapt in an intense and changing work environment.
