Equipment Library Assistant

The post holder will have responsibility to support the Clinical Engineering Department for the day to day monitoring and maintenance of the combined Trust’s Medical Equipment. This includes supporting the Medical Equipment Library in ensuring collection of decontaminated equipment from the wards back to the department.
Equipment Library
- Compliance with regulatory affairs
- Day to day running of the Medical Equipment Library
- Appropriate decontamination of all the equipment in accordance with Trust policy.
- Regularly updating the equipment library database for tracking the loans of equipment
- Stocks management in accordance with procedures
- Coordinate maintenance and repair of all equipment in the library
- Ensure that all the equipment is undamaged and fully fit for use and that it is clean and tidy.
- Ensure that ward staff members are aware of and adhere to Medical Equipment Library procedures
- Advise nursing staff with regard to what to do with damaged or malfunctioning equipment
- Liaise with ward staff on operational problems relating to the service
- Liaise with the Tissue Viability Nurse regarding the distribution of Negative Pressure wound therapy Pumps
- Liaise with the Palliative Care Team regarding the T34 Syringe drivers using appropriate documentation
- Responsible for the accuracy and completeness of loan records on the ECRI-AIMS systems.
- Provide regular reports of equipment usage to Trust management according to requirement.
- Inform the Equipment Library Manager promptly of any problems relating to the MEL.
- Ensure that risk assessments are carried out and applied for all hazardous situations

- Under the supervision of the Equipment Library Manager and Senior Engineers
- To support the day to day running of the department, including monitoring delivery times of devices by porters to the ward and collection of equipment from the wards to the Department
and Equipment Library.
- Ensure that all equipment is appropriately decontaminated in accordance with Trust policy.
- Regularly updating the Departments Medical Device Database. Keep auditable records and track the loans of equipment.
- To be support the management of Medical Equipment in accordance with Trust procedures.
- To arrange repair and maintenance of medical equipment with internal agencies and external service providers
- To be support on-going maintenance schedules. Ensuring equipment is undamaged and fully fit
for use. Perform minor service routines and calibration procedures.
- To ensure the tidiness and cleanliness of the Clinical engineering department.
- To assist in the promotion of ward staff awareness of and monitor the adherence to departmental procedures Including the need to keep equipment on charge, to decontaminate
after use and to release equipment after use rather than holding on to it.
- To assist the Equipment Library Manager (ELM) to liaise with the Tissue Viability Nurse regarding the distribution of Negative Pressure wound therapy Pumps (VAC)
- To assist the ELM with the distribution of the Palliative Care Team’s T34 Syringe drivers
- To assist the Lead Engineer and department & ward staff to gather information on operational problems relating to the service, and to deal effectively with issues arising during periods of equipment shortage.
- To advise nursing staff with regard to what to do with damaged or malfunctioning equipment
- To be responsible for the accuracy and completeness of loan records and change data on the Trust
