**Job Title**: Locum Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
**Duration**:3 months, extendable
**Hours**: Full-time / Part-time / On-call as required
**Reports to**: Clinical Lead / Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department
**Job Summary**:
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Provide comprehensive care to obstetric patients, including antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal management.
- Perform elective and emergency gynaecological procedures, including surgeries and outpatient interventions.
- Manage high-risk pregnancies, including complex obstetric cases and maternal-fetal medicine.
- Lead labour ward rounds, ensuring effective management of obstetric emergencies such as caesarean sections, instrumental deliveries, and other acute scenarios.
- Provide expert gynaecological care, including diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for a wide range of conditions such as menstrual disorders, infertility, and pelvic pain.
- Participate in the on-call rota, providing emergency cover for obstetric and gynaecological patients as required.
- Collaborate with midwives, junior doctors, anaesthetists, neonatologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated patient care.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, nursing staff, and trainees, fostering a learning environment.
- Participate in clinical governance activities, including audits, quality improvement initiatives, and risk management.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of clinical care in line with hospital policies and professional standards.
- Engage in teaching, training, and educational activities within the department, contributing to the professional development of the team.
**Essential Qualifications**:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or relevant medical licensing authority.
- CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) in Obstetrics & Gynaecology or equivalent.
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG/FRCOG) or equivalent international qualification.
- Proven experience working at a consultant level in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, with proficiency in both obstetric and gynaecological care.
**Skills and Experience**:
- Extensive experience managing obstetric and gynaecological emergencies.
- Proficiency in surgical techniques related to caesarean sections, hysterectomies, laparoscopy, and other gynaecological procedures.
- Strong clinical decision-making skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information to patients, families, and colleagues.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience supervising and supporting junior doctors and other healthcare staff.
- Commitment to patient safety, clinical governance, and continuous professional development.
- Experience in managing complex cases, including high-risk obstetrics and advanced gynaecological conditions.
**Desirable Qualifications**:
- Additional subspecialty training or expertise in areas such as Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Urogynaecology, or Gynaecological Oncology.
- Experience in research, clinical audits, and contributions to clinical guidelines or policy development.
- Publications in relevant obstetric and gynaecological journals.
