Reading, United Kingdom Thames Water Full time

**Who are we?**
Thames Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater company. We make a daily difference to our 15 million customers by supplying 2.6 billion litres of water through 32,000 km of pipes, keeping taps flowing and toilets flushing.
At Thames Water, every one of our actions, big and small, matters every day. Water is essential to life, so our business is always open.
**What you’ll be doing**
The Director of HSW will oversee the whole function across a broad and diverse portfolio of projects and site locations; with a variety of risks ranging from pre-construction CDM, process safety, capital works programmes and physical assets.
This is a strategic appointment that will report into the Engineering & Asset Director, who forms part of the Executive Team. We are seeking somebody to improve the current HSW performance as it is not currently achieving the high standards that are expected, considering the high-profile, complex and safety critical nature of the business.
Developing the function is critical, both in terms of mindsets and behaviours. There is the need to shift the approach to collaboration whilst working closely with all departments to build relationships through engagement, increased HSW performance and theinfluencing of cultural change.
Internally, Thames Water has a number of new appointments in senior posts and building relationships with these individuals is vital to success. Externally, forging strong bonds with stakeholders and regulatory bodies is required. A close working relationshipwith the Health & Safety Executive can help to develop Thames Water’s standing as an industry leader in HSW.
**What you should bring to the role**
- Proven leadership skills - the ability to influence and engage others at all levels is critical
- ‘Big-picture’ thinking. Needs to demonstrate how to develop robust and sustainable performance
- Experience of leading a large team - with a track-record of improving performance and evolving mindsets
- Suitable industry experience - a background working for safety critical organisations with a broad risk profile is preferred.

**What’s in it for you?**
