**Family Support Officer**
**About the job**
**Job description**:
Job Title: Family Support Officer
Location: Lancashire
**Salary**: £15 per hour
Contract: Casual (flexible hours, evening work)
**About First Kick Foundation**
First Kick Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation committed to improving physical and mental wellbeing through accessible sport, health, and enrichment programmes. We work with children, young people, and families across Preston and the wider North West — delivering school-based sport, HAF holiday provision, and targeted community initiatives that create real impact.
In partnership with Progress Housing Group and local community partners, we are launching an exciting new Family Support, Mentoring and Behaviour Change Programme. This free-to-access initiative will work directly with families in local neighbourhoods, helping them to strengthen relationships, build confidence, and lead positive, healthy, and sustainable lives.
We’re now looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Family Support Officer to help bring this project to life.
**Role Overview**
As a Family Support Officer, you’ll be at the heart of our place-based, community-led approach - building relationships, delivering practical support, and empowering families to reach their potential.
You’ll work directly with families and local partners to deliver mentoring sessions, workshops, and community engagement activities that:
Strengthen family cohesion and decision-making
Build resilience and positive behaviours
Support healthy, balanced, and financially sustainable lifestyles
Reduce social isolation and increase community involvement
**Key Responsibilities**
- Engage with families across local neighbourhoods, building strong, trust-based relationships.
- Deliver one-to-one and group mentoring sessions to support positive behaviour change and personal growth.
- Provide practical and emotional support to help families strengthen cohesion and decision-making.
- Facilitate workshops and community-based activities focused on wellbeing, resilience, and healthy lifestyles.
- Identify and address risks and vulnerabilities early, connecting families to appropriate services and resources.
- Promote financial literacy, positive habits, and sustainable living within family settings.
- Encourage family participation in wider community events to reduce isolation and build belonging.
- Maintain accurate records of engagement, progress, and outcomes in line with programme monitoring.
- Work collaboratively with partners, community groups, and housing staff to deliver joined-up support.
- Ensure safeguarding, health & safety, and confidentiality policies are followed at all times.
**Person Specification**
**Essential**:
- Experience in community engagement, mentoring, or family support.
- Ability to build trust and rapport with families from diverse backgrounds.
- Understanding of the challenges faced by families experiencing social, financial, or emotional difficulties.
- Strong communication, listening, and problem-solving skills.
- Empathetic, patient, and proactive approach to supporting others.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-agency team.
- Commitment to equality, inclusion, and safeguarding best practice.
**Desirable**:
- A relevant qualification in community work, youth work, social care, or psychology.
- Experience working within housing, education, or health-related settings.
- Knowledge of local communities in Freckleton, Leyland, Great Harwood, Kingsfold, or St Annes.
- Basic understanding of financial wellbeing and healthy lifestyle principles.
- Certified First Aid training.
**What We Offer**
A rewarding and meaningful role supporting families to reach their potential
A supportive, collaborative working environment
Ongoing training and professional development opportunities
Flexible working arrangements
The opportunity to make a real impact in local communities
**How to Apply**
**Job Type**: Part-time
Pay: £15.00 per hour
