CoStar News has a reputation as the leading source of commercial real estate news in the UK. The team breaks hundreds of news stories and exclusives each year, and is read by tens of thousands of subscribers, The readership includes many of the UK’s leading real estate personalities and deal makers.

News is an essential part of CoStar, probably the most successful commercial real estate information and marketing platform in the world. Hundreds of thousands of subscribers search CoStar every day to find properties for sale, spaces for lease, understand market trends, owners, funds and tenants.

As a commercial real estate reporter you will be responsible for breaking important news stories and reporting on market events. This will include office, industrial and retail sectors but also, importantly, developing stories about the build to rent, student and residential sectors. This will support CoStar’s expanding information and marketing products in these high growth sectors.

You will be expected to develop their network of industry professionals and provide the powerful insights and analysis that our readership needs. The reporter will be required to work closely with our UK research teams to create significant value about the properties, transactions, companies and people we track.

This role will report into the UK News Managing Editor - one of the most experienced commercial real estate journalists in the UK.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Writing exceptional news stories that bring valuable insight and analysis
- Breaking important news stories and exclusives that drive readership
- Ensuring these stories get picked up by national and regional press
- Developing exciting news content for build to rent, student and residential property types
- Building a network of high-value contacts
- Attending industry events and conferences
- Working closely with the wider research group to support the development of our information and marketing products
- Working with marketing and sales teams to identify opportunities for brand building

QUALIFICATIONS
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
- Experienced journalist who ideally has worked on a business and commercial or residential property publication. The applicant should have a strong grasp of how to construct a news story, how to source news and what information is needed in a commercial property news story for it to have value for readers.
- Experience of interviewing and maintaining contacts with freelancers, PRs, publishers and key industry sources.
- Exceptional interviewing and writing skills and the necessary drive and journalistic training to deliver top quality copy.
- Good commercial and residential property awareness.
- Experience working within a news team.
