For our expansion plan, we are seeking an organised and enthusiastic Roastery Assistant to join our team at Coffee Gems. This hands-on role is essential for ensuring the smooth operation of our roastery and the efficient delivery of our products to customers. You will be responsible for the end-to-end fulfilment of online and collection orders, serving customers in the roastery, and maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and organisation. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to learn about specialty coffee and contribute directly to our brand's reputation for quality and service.
**Key responsibilities**
**Order Fulfilment & Shipping**
- Accurately process, pack, and ship all customer orders, including freshly roasted coffee beans and coffee equipment.
- Organise and prepare all necessary shipping documentation, labels, and tracking information.
- Maintain order records and manage the stock of packaging materials.
- Ensure that all packed products meet quality control standards before dispatch.
**Customer Service & Sales**
- Provide a friendly and knowledgeable service to customers collecting orders at the roastery.
- Prepare and serve a range of coffee beverages to high-quality standards.
- Offer advice to customers on various coffee beans, brewing methods, and equipment to drive sales and enhance the customer experience.
- Handle cash and card transactions accurately using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
**Roastery Operations & Inventory**
- Maintain the cleanliness, organisation, and presentation of the roastery floor, stock rooms, and customer service areas.
- Proactively monitor stock levels of coffee beans, packaging, and equipment, communicating low stock alerts to management in a timely manner.
- Assist in receiving and organising inventory deliveries, ensuring items are stored correctly.
- Adhere to strict health, safety, and hygiene standards at all times.
**Essential requirements**
- Minimum availability of 20 hours per week, including mandatory availability to work on a Saturday.
- Demonstrable experience in a customer service or retail environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in order processing and packing.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer literacy for order processing and POS system use.
- Physical ability to lift and move boxes of coffee and equipment.
**Desirable experience**
- Previous experience in a coffee shop or roastery environment.
- Familiarity with online order fulfilment processes (e.g., generating shipping labels).
- Basic knowledge of specialty coffee.
- Experience with a POS system.
