Relief Support Worker

Huntly, United Kingdom Inspire PTL Full time

Inspire has been supporting adults with learning disabilities in Huntly since the organisation was first established more than 30 years ago, and today we operate a range of services within the town. We have 2 housing support services and a day service/charity shop.

We currently have vacancies for Relief Support Workers across all our services within Huntly - where we provide support to enable local people with learning disabilities to live independently.

Inspire has operated the Greenfolds service since it was initially established in 1993 and the men who currently call it home range in age from their early 20’s to their mid 60’s and are social characters who like to be out and about - both locally and further afield.

One man is very independent and enjoys swimming, bowling, tending to his garden and tinkering in his shed. He also regularly attends Inspire’s day service in the town and is currently developing the day-to-day living and social skills that will, in time, hopefully enable him to move on to a more independent living setting.

Another gentleman is less mobile and uses a wheelchair outwith the service. He loves going for long trips around Huntly and often hires a car to venture further afield and enjoy a cuppa and a fine piece. He enjoys reading his papers and magazines every day and is always up for a blether The final man only moved into the service recently, is very independent, attends both Moray College and Inspire By and loves playing computer games.

Milton Wynd is currently home to six gentlemen and two ladies who range in age from their early 30’s to their mid 60’s. They have a broad range of interests including walking, cooking, darts, pool, bowling, going out for lunch and just having a good old cuppa and a chat

One day you might be helping someone with cooking a meal, cleaning their home or budgeting their money and the next you could be accompanying them to an appointment or activity session or to get their weekly shopping. You may also be required to help with the administration of medication, provide support with eating and drinking at meal times or help to maintain people’s dignity through the provision of quality personal care, depending on individual needs.

The people currently supported by Inspire in Huntly also have a mixture of communication levels and physical capabilities, which adds further to the variety of the role.

Although our work can be challenging - and there is the requirement for lone working at a couple of our services - it is also immensely rewarding as Relief Support Workers play a vital role in developing and maintaining the important life skills and encouraging the participation and integration required for the people we support to flourish and get the best out of life.

Our Inspire By Huntly day service currently works from our Charity Shop in the centre of Huntly, supporting 18 people, male and female who live in Huntly and the surrounding area, with various support packages. The main working hours will be 9am - 5pm Monday - Saturday.

Relief support work within the shop is really varied. One day you might be helping sort out donations, using the till, serving customers and other shop duties, and the next you could be accompanying people to an activity session or helping with the weekly coffee mornings. Each day is different and the daily schedules are routinely discussed so everyone knows what is expected. There is never a quiet moment in the shop.

No two services are the same and no two days in any of our services are truly ever the same either

**What’s In It For You?**

We also appreciate that now, perhaps more than ever before, different people need different things from their work pattern, so there is lots of flexibility with available shifts to enable you to fit these around your other commitments.

There are plenty of other benefits that come with working for Inspire, apart from having the opportunity for real personal development and growth and getting to know and spending lots of time with the people we support.

Relief Support Workers at Inspire receive £10.50 an hour. There is also a £200 Refer a Friend scheme.

**What Are You Waiting For?**

If you are outgoing, have a caring nature, and are respectful, compassionate, nurturing and inclusive, then we would love you to join our team here in Huntly and help us continue supporting local adults with learning disabilities to live fulfilled and happy lives.
