Your New role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Capability, Safety & Risk Manager to join our team. Within this role you will be leading and managing the team and delivering the service requirement and promoting continuous improvement. You willalso be responsible for maintaining risk management arrangements for the directorate and owning the observation and assessment procedures.

What you’ll be leading on
- Own the Operational Capability Observation Process, supporting operational management and leadership to ensure that they discharge their duty under Sec 2.2c of the HSWA 1974.
- Manage the Operational Capability Assessment Team, ensuring that assessment targets are clearly defined, and objectives agreed
- Challenge non-compliance with processes, and where necessary escalate to appropriate levels within Regional Management Teams or Senior Leadership Teams.
- Responsible for managing risk assessment processes for safety critical roles (as defined by Operations Directorate) e.g. Traffic Officers, Highways Inspectors, Structures Inspectors etc
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to improve existing control measures or identify and implement new control measures, ensuring a culture of continuous improvement and proactive safety. Contribute to the development and review of the corporate HSWMS andHealth & Safety systems and processes.
- Provide technical support to serious incident investigations, using Investigation methods to ensure lessons are learned and communicated to the wider directorate (where appropriate).

To be Successful
- Hold or be willing to work towards a Health & Safety qualification equivalent to level 3 NEBOSH certificate as a minimum
- Skilled in Incident Investigation
- Experience of leading projects or working groups to clarify understanding and identify and deliver best solutions
- Able to undertake assessment verification to validate, and quality assure assessment decisions.
- Experience of undertaking risk assessments in a high
- risk environment, identifying reasonably practicable control measures and influencing leaders to implement controls
- Excellent knowledge of Corporate HSWMS and Incident Reporting Systems
