We are looking for an exceptional individual to join our Inpatient teams as an advisor for Treating Tobacco Dependence (TTD).
This is a fixed-term role, suitable as a secondment, to work with the Clinical Lead, healthcare staff and other team members in providing individualised smoking cessation support to inpatients in a flexible an innovative way.
This post will contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting inpatients to stop smoking. It focuses on engaging with people whilst admitted as an inpatient and offering smoking cessation support and onward referral to community services to continue their smoke free journey.
The postholder will provide intermediate targeted smoking cessation support to inpatients, using the support of interventions such as CO monitoring and Nicotine Replacement Therapy, along with administration of the smokefree data collection and collation.
This postholder will contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting inpatients to stop smoking. It focuses on engaging with inpatients offering them practical support to change their behaviour to achieve their own choices and goals.
The postholder will provide intermediate targeted smoking cessation support throughout the inpatient stay, using the support of interventions such as CO monitoring and Nicotine Replacement Therapy, along with administration of the smokefree data collection and collation.
The postholder will work and liaise closely with health care staff, local stop smoking services as well as local Public Health teams. The postholder is responsible for acting as a smoke free champion promoting the smoke free message through their day to day work and seeking out opportunities to develop and implement stop smoking services across a number of clinical services.
The TTD service will be hosted by North Bristol NHS Trust, which employs over 12,000 staff providing healthcare to the residents of Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset from our award-winning hospital building at Southmead. **Care/Service Provision**:
1. To plan and deliver stop smoking advice and support sessions, including advice on stop smoking medications, working within recommended protocols and guidelines. This may involve individual, telephonic, on-line and group work sessions in a variety of settings and venues.
2. Identify and approach service users who are eligible for tobacco dependence conversations and treatment whilst an inpatient.
3. Make onward referral to community services to continue with the stop smoking attempt.
4. Develop individually tailored support plans including recommending treatments based on assessed needs.
5. Provide general health, lifestyle advice and support to people using the service.
6. Participate in educating inpatients about the benefits of stopping smoking whilst in hospital and upon discharge.
7. Deliver Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitoring to a high standard and engage in the data collection and collation of CO rates.
8. Engage with the targeted Smoking Cessation intervention, keeping accurate records and enable good data collection. Maintain accurate up to date and comprehensive records at all times.
9. Ensure that the relevant equipment is provided and maintained on an agreed schedule. Report any failings of equipment or other environmental factors to the Clinical Lead.
10. Respond effectively to referrals within stated timescales.
11. To be involved in the monitoring and evaluation of patient/client feedback, offering recommendations as part of the team to improve services.
12. Be aware of how to report incidents, concerns or complaints and escalate any concerns or complexities to the Clinical Lead.
**Monitoring and Administrative Tasks**:
1. To contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the service, including the completion of the minimum data set requirement. This will include following up quitters who do not attend for planned support.
