We are pleased to announce an exciting new opportunity to join the Blue light triage service within Brighton and Hove.

It is an exciting time for Urgent care services in Sussex having received recent investment to enhance provision and ensure that individuals can access care when needed.

In Brighton and Hove we commenced the early implementation of a Police street triage service in 2018, and we have extended this to cover 7 days.

We are looking to continue to develop a team of Blue light response practitioners, to offer assessment to individuals in Mental health crisis who have come into contact with emergency services.

Blue light practitioners will be expected to work autonomously alongside service partners and foster a supportive and mutually beneficial relationship.

The service currently covers 2pm - midnight Sunday - Thursday and 4pm - 2am Friday and Saturday. Staff will be expected to cover weekends and Banks holidays. Staff will be expected to attend training at times earlier within the day and service hours may change as the service develops.

Staff are currently based with Police officers in John Street station and also attend Millview, Hove site on occasion.

We are looking for a senior nurse with excellent assessment and communication skills who is keen to work and help develop this dynamic service as it continues to evolve. Please read through the job description for more details of essential skills and experience.

To work alongside police officers and other emergency workers in supporting access to mental health services.

To offer an assessment when appropriate to those in mental health crisis who have come into contact with Emergency services and plan onward care.

To support colleagues and those in Mental health crisis, particularly in the Urgent care pathway.

To protect the health and safety of our staff/workers, patients, and those attending our sites, we encourage our workforce to get fully vaccinated against COVID.

You will complete the assessment of the individual’s needs and risks, accurately recording and communicating this information and will utilise your skills to optimise outcomes for service users following an emergency situation.

A successful applicant would have excellent positive risk management skills and the ability to make independent clinical decisions considering the risks present, and make safe onward plans of care. The applicant will require excellent communication and rapport building skills to work effectively with service users and carers. The applicant will also be required to demonstrate excellent leadership, someone who can promote mental health inclusion and work in an emergency situation with confidence. Experience of collaborative working is essential as you will be working in partnership with our emergency service colleagues in challenging situations
