**Job title**: Dental receptionist

**Hours of work**: 37.5 hours per week, negotiable, typically between 08:15 and 17:15, Monday to Friday. Job share considered.

**Main Purpose of job**:
To work as part of the practice team to assist the provision of dental care services to patients whilst remaining fully compliant with all relevant legislation.

**Main tasks of the job**:
**Reception**:

- Answer the telephone in the prescribed manner
- Welcome all patients arriving at the practice
- Ensure that the appointment system is efficient and accurate
- Collect and record patient payments

**Administrative duties**:

- Making, cancelling and altering appointments face to face and by letter and telephone.
- Preparing patients accounts and collecting money
- Taking the letters to post
- Ensure correct completion of all paperwork following practice policy
- Ensure patient details are up to date i.e. address and contact information
- Facilitate the signing of treatment plans.
- Ensure that all patient records are completed correctly before scanning and shredding
- Complete and return relevant forms for NHS and private schemes within a specified timescale
- Encourage prompt payments and follow up any outstanding debts according to the practice policy
- Liaise with dental laboratories, supply companies and other organisations as required
- Compile daylists
- Liaise with hospital and community services to ensure referrals are being taken up.
- Keep office, reception area and waiting room clean and tidy
- Organise and order stock supplies
- Undergo training as may be required to develop your skills and abilities
- Attend refresher and update training for medical emergencies and CPR
- Work at other practice locations from time to time as required
- Cash up daily takings
- Record petty cash transactions
- Run reports e.g. UDA counts, outstanding treatments, etc
- Monitor health and safety checklists, including smoke alarm tests, emergency lighting, legionella etc.

**Teamwork**:

- Welcome and assist new staff members
- Encourage and motivate other staff in line with practice policies
- Assist in maintenance of your personnel file
- Assist in drawing up staff roles and responsibilities
- Identify training and development needs and attend training and development provided
- Check weekly and holiday rotas to ensure adequate levels of staffing
- Take an active role in team communications and meetings
- Promote an equitable approach to team members
- Take an active role in periodic appraisals in line with the current practice policy
- Maintain smart appearance and appropriate personal hygiene

**Practice Development**:

- Identify, and make known, ways in which the company can improve the quality and efficiency of its working

**General**:

- Comply with health and safety law and practice policies relating to all aspects of health and safety
- Comply with practice policies and procedures relating to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
- Be flexible with duties to ensure smooth running of the practice
- Meeting with representatives and ordering
- Carry out such further tasks as may from time to time be delegated to him/her by his/her superior
