Commitment level:
Flexible - typically one to two hours per week during ‘growing seasons’ Spring / Summer. Less frequent in Autumn / Winter.

Purpose of the Voluntary role:
The purpose of the volunteer gardener role is to ensure the small garden and outdoor space at the Evergreen office is tidy and well maintained and looks the best it can. We aim that the garden is a pleasant space for Evergreen members, volunteers and staff to enjoy and also an area where we can hold small events. This is an opportunity for volunteers with ‘green fingers’ to make the space their own. Ideally, we would have two or more volunteers working as a team.

Key Responsibilities:

- Cutting the grass
- Trimming hedges
- Maintaining hanging baskets
- Planting new flowers and shrubs
- Keep paths and flower beds weed free
- Water plants
- Sweeping paths of leaves
- Follow Health & Safety guidance
- Wear protective clothing when required
- Uphold the values of the Evergreen Care Trust
- Key relationships:

- Working with other volunteer gardeners
- Working with Members of Staff delivering the Trust’s ‘Paid for’ Services
- Working alongside other volunteer Groups within the Trust

Skills, Qualifications and experience required:

- No formal qualifications are required
- A keen interest in gardening
- Enjoy working outdoors

Training and support required:

- Mandatory Online Safeguarding training
- Guidance on the role

Availability of parking at work location:

- There is parking at Evergreen’s offices and access to toilets and kitchen.

Equipment:

- All necessary tools and protective clothing will be supplied. Tools can be stored at Evergreen’s office.
